DRS works very well in cricket, why couldn't the same thing be implemented with VAR? Nothing is checked unless the Captain or Manager asks for it. If it's a dead call, you lose a review. If it's legit, you keep it.

Yup. Seems like a simple solution to me. Right now it feels because so many things are being checked every game, it's done through an incredibly rushed process leading to more errors.

Just let the manager/captain ask for a review. The ref goes to the monitor and makes a call with no external pressure from other VAR's looking at the same thing.

Keeps the on-field ref in control of the game and I think fans would feel better about that process too within the stadium.

Am not saying VAR should be binned completely or that a majority should have voted accordingly, but will say I'm hugely surprised Wolves were alone in that vote.

I hate them, obviously, but they were **** over so many times last year, and they weren't the only club.

It's a strange one. Unless there are wholesale changes, and I mean wholesale, I don't see how VAR continues and isn't a shit vehicle for bias.

I'd wished they'd of sacked it off. It's awful and imo has not improved the game at all.

Celebrate a goal in real time only to wait for however long to see if your celebrations were legitimate.

They tinker with it from week to week and change the rules as they go.

Last season from week to week it was a mess with zero consistency.

On many incidents they just change the point of decision from the playing field to Stockly Park

I'm really surprised Wolves were a lone voice.

Most of the fans from all differing clubs i speak to hate it and the fans for it are in the minority.

Funny, PGMOL and Howard Webb have defended  VAR and the referees to the hills this season.. But then admit they need to be much better and imprive on it's use for the 24/25 season

I am sorry Wolves that the opposition keeper destroyed your player and VAR didnt see it

We will try better next time

I don't get it's implementation at all. I get that once you're in the middle of a season you don't want to be changing rules half way, but going right back to the drawing board with how the tech is used is a must.

Sack it off, agree.

Let fans actually celebrate in the moment.

See, I get a lot of anti VAR arguments. Slowing the game down, various interpretations of similar accidents, faulty communication, not coming back to review certain incidents and many more.

But can we stop with the nonsense of not being allow to celebrate? Does anyone stop you from celebrating? I celebrate just as much as I did in 2016. And even better, sometimes I get to celebrate the same goal twice!

Whenever you watch a game you see 'shit, this will be a close one, he might be offside'. And if VAR found out he was off, why would you want to celebrate a non legit goal anyway?

Football is a game of emotions. You can celebrate anything, anytime you want. We get a corner? Go mental. No one is stopping you.

I didn't say I love it - it's just a much less of an inconvenience as is presented.

No one is stopping anyone from celebrating.

This is where i am, frustrating! Watching the game with my kids here Goal goes in, celebrate,  when they get the lines out and the edge of his sleeve is offside, disallowed, then i start moaning about the fact you would deem a goal offside if his ball sack was offside, then i get daddy what a ball sack 🤣

It won’t improve until there’s transparency for every major decision. Improvements in the quality of officiating making the calls. It’s frankly embarrassing that some clubs had to pressure them into releasing audio for certain decisions. More automation on offsides will help. It’s not perfect. But ultimately, as long as refs keep looking out for each to not overturn bad calls etc, there will be little trust in the system. It needs more rigour and independence. Not just jobs for the lads.

Just remember, it's not the system, it's the flesh and bone operating it. That's why like in Europe, we should have dedicated operators, no hands on refs trying to make a call from a screen, it's completely different, than being on field.

It's so simple to me. VAR only gets involved if it's called for by the referee, or, if the refs have made a clear error, i.e they have missed something obvious. There's is also alot of learning to do, what is a handball, is it really a red card played in slow motion. Offsides will hopefully be sorted with automation, but at the moment taking 5 plus minutes to check if an offside is off by the end of a toe, is, in reality, just stupid!!

Give me the reigns Webb, it's so simply improved.

Knowing that VAR might find something certainly stops me. I mean, it’s not illegal to celebrate, of course it isn’t, but knowing that some word removed is going to look at it to find some reason to rule it out certainly puts a wet blanket on it all for me.

Scrap the nonsense. Adds nothing, takes so much away.

Whatever it was this season they'll change their mind next season

That's one of the biggest problems PGMOL have and it's their own doing, they've tweaked the handball and offside rules so much that seemingly no one has a clue what's going on anymore

Webb gets bigged up, by the media, but for me, he needs to do much, much better. This is the problem, getting one of the old boys back in.

IFAB is the one who continually messes and tweaks the rules with handball. And then different competitions have different enforcement of the handball rules / interpretations. it's a catch 22 -- a handball offense that I call when I am center refereeing a youth game is going to be exponentially different than how PGMOL (and other refereeing bodies) call them.
