We're still so reliant on Adomah and Snodgrass doing something to win. Worked this time, even if Snodgrass didn't deserve to be on pitch any more. 

Special mention to Tommy, he played well and was constantly clapping and encouraging his team mates. Well done, especially since he's not exactly a regular.

Well done everyone, wasnt pretty but it was unlikely to be considering our run.

I think he would’ve started before now, and probably was above Davis in the pecking order before injuries and Davis’ impressive form. I hope that we can turn our injury crisis in to an opportunity. Come on RHM!

I’d like to see Davis and RHM together... that’s boner material.

Joking aside, that was a good away performance against one of the "top" sides in the division.

It wasn't pretty, but we never looked under threat despite Pulis going with giants all over the park and at least two strikers at all times.

We looked solid with Jedinak back in his familiar role, and kudos to the central defenders who won everything they needed to despite their height disadvantage.  I had Chester as MotM, but it could've been Elphick too who looked like the player we thought we'd signed 18 months.  Very assured.  I feel like this had a knock-on effect with Johnstone too, who had his most confident game in a while.

The best cross of the game came in when Hogan had gone off, and he was feeding off scraps again, although you can't help but feel that his movement when the ball is in wide positions doesn't help the wingers.  That said, RHM came on and looked far better.  He can beat a man for pace and tricks - and we've nobody else fit who can do that.

Hutton had another good game at left back, and again looked better there than his natural side.  Elmohamady still looks like the most consistent crosser of the ball we have, but he's rarely got anything to aim at.

Snodgrass offered little, but scored and on the occasions that he tried a long range pass he was pinpoint.  Shame we can't say that about his free kicks.  On the opposite flank Adomah is often too easy to defend against, but he never ever gives up and his cross was reward for his effort.

Onomah had looked lively until he was clattered out of the game, but Grealish played well when coming on, again showing how to go past players and keep hold of the ball.

In all it wasn't the pretty, free-flowing football we crave but it was a win without any particular scares at a tough side with a new manager who (usually) knows how to beat Villa.

I'd have taken this at 2.59pm today.

Our only hope of winning games seems to be in keeping a clean sheet. Today we defended very well. Credit to Elphick and Chester (and Elmo and Hutton) who dug in deep and limited Boro’s forward play. We looked devoid of any idea going forwards and weren’t pressing the opposition when they had possession, which resulted in Boro having plenty of time on the ball. Our lack of a game plan, style of play or any creativity meant that when we did advance forward we constantly had nowhere to go so ended up playing the ball back to our defence. Grealish coming on changed our approach as he’s not only the most creative player in our team but also the most positive. 

Really pleased we got the win. RHM looked lively and we got more use out of him than we did Hogan. But the way we’re set up we struggle to get our forwards into the game.

Big win and keeps us in the mix. Need to cut out the mistakes going forwards to give us the chance of taking advantage like we did today.

Derby are all of a sudden 2nd, they were behind us a couple weeks ago.

Imagine if we hadn't spunked points away?
