Johnstone 4: Even he is starting to get dragged down by the infectious dross of the team. Kicking rarely goes to anyone and can't seem to deal with crosses anymore.
Hutton 4: Guts and thunder and no brains.
Elphick 5: Hard to blame him as he didn't look that bad, one mess up on the edge of the penalty area aside.
Chester 4: More misplaced passes than a drunk Uncle at a wedding, truly awful.
Taylor 5: Tried to offer something going forward at least.
Jed 4: See Hutton
Whelan 3: Absolute liability, how many points has he cost us already?
Snodgrass 4: Frustratingly poor, just like most of his set pieces.
Onomah 4.5: Excellent goal undone instantly by defensive buffoonery. He was at least one player who kept trying till the end for what little that was worth.
Grealish 6: Never gave up and covered a lot of the pitch, still lacks an end product but he is the only recent positive we have had.
Hogan 5: Good cross for the goal, had very little else to work with and was easily bypassed.

Davis 4: Fluffed the best chance we had for an equaliser, did nothing else of note.
Elmo: To little involvement to rate

Bruce's inability to play 442 or any kind of progressive forward thinking formation is one of many reasons we will stay in this division, i thought once he had steadied the ship the shackles would come off, if anything our style of play has regressed further and any team that is well organised and does the basics right will beat us easily.

It’s hard to believe a team made up of mainly the best players in the league struggle so much :(

That wasn't very good. We're in need of a lift. The football we're playing is dreadful - that's the responsibility of Bruce, he's also accountable for the results. I don't agree that we've got a squad that should be dominating this league, there's a lot of dross here and a lot of work to do; on the evidence of the last few weeks, we're a long way from being where we want to get to.

IMO we easily have 15/16 players who would get in most sides.

But they never look like it under Bruce. Again tonight we looked as if we had never ever been coached, whereas even Brentford’s corners looked like works of art by comparison.

Its lowest common denom8nator football and it’s embarrassingly poor.

How to beat Villa in  three easy steps:

1) Keep it tight in midfield, close down the Villa player as quickly as possible.

2) Wait for and expect a horrendous defensive error from Villa. Score a soft goal. Repeat if necessary.

3) Be confident and remain confident that the Villa manager has absolutely no idea how to change the game.

Take the three points and laugh at how far a so called big club has fallen.

Just back from the game and what a waste of an evening. Bruce got a hard time at the end from alot of the standing fans and Wyness was there to witness the reaction so let’s see what Dr T tweets.

Grealish MOTM - the rest were collectively awful. Our fullbacks are amongst the worst in the league.

this post is 100% correct, its been the blueprint since the bradford game in 2013.

theirs some deep problems at villa,.. one is the current squad know the club can not spend so the players are "safe", this is not healthy.

Bruce in post-match comments says the team are playing the same as when he first inherited them ...... so that means even he admits he has achieved naff all in his time here. Surely that is a suicide note Dr T ...... do him !!!

Last night was completely unacceptable. I have been reluctant to call for Bruce to go, but my patience is now wearing thin.

On one hand, you can argue that Bruce can do nothing about the individual errors from Whelan and Jedinak over the past few games. It’s ironic that those two were signed as experienced pro’s to offer consistency and sure things up.

What you cannot deny is that the football under Bruce is turgid and with the players we have, we are capable of much better. Can’t see us getting anything at Boro now Pulis is in charge and possibly get a point against Bristol. Then would be a good time for Bruce to go with no league game until 13th.

All very depressing.....again

Well Bruce just keeps making the same mistakes doesn't he? Can' get hogan to play up front on his own, so plays him up front on his own. We have a midfielder that has made a serious individual error in each of our last 3 games, let' keep him in the team. We have a right back playing poorly, and we only have 3 other players who play that position but let' keep playing him.

Then to say we areas bad now as when he took over (despite him having signed the ajority of the players in the squad) is just unfathomable.

The man needs to be removed asap as he has clearly lost the plot!
