Unsporting behaviour

Quote

CAUTIONS FOR UNSPORTING BEHAVIOUR

There are different circumstances when a player must be cautioned for unsporting behaviour including if a player:

attempts to deceive the referee e.g. by feigning injury or pretending to have been fouled (simulation)

changes places with the goalkeeper during play or without the referee’s permission

commits in a reckless manner a direct free kick offence

commits a foul or handles the ball to interfere with or stop a promising attack

commits a foul which interferes with or stops a promising attack except where the referee awards a penalty kick for an offence which was an attempt to play the ball

denies an opponent an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by an offence which was an attempt to play the ball and the referee awards a penalty kick

handles the ball in an attempt to score a goal (whether or not the attempt is successful) or in an unsuccessful attempt to prevent a goal

makes unauthorised marks on the field of play

plays the ball when leaving the field of play after being given permission to leave

shows a lack of respect for the game

uses a deliberate trick to pass the ball (including from a free kick) to the goalkeeper with the head, chest, knee etc. to circumvent the Law, whether or not the goalkeeper touches the ball with the hands

verbally distracts an opponent during play or at a restart

That was a bit shit. What I took from today is please god no Jedinak in defence again, Snodgrass needs a slap and Davis badly needs a goal. I know Elphick isn't great but he must start on boxing day. I had been broadly positive before today's game- I am now worried that the season could well go tits up in about 3 weeks.  We miss Samba let alone JT.  4 goals in 2 games with 3 of those down to errors is not promotion material.

and recognise that Gabby is a better sub than Hogan (yup, really); then we can put this one down as a valuable lesson - if we don't, then I think we'll be frustrating ourselves for a while longer.

Hogan did nothing but neither did Gabby and De Laet was crap also.

I completely agree with the sentiment of you post but think Suliman or Bedau would be better options then Elphick.

It's Bedau's 18th birthday today. I think a first team place would be a little bit too generous a gift. He's working his way into the reserve team, growing physically and on the verge of becoming a regular starter there, he looks a good prospect and I would hope he can become a leading reserve team player next season - for me, if he keeps developing well, he could be a first team player the season after next - right now it'd be damaging to put him in there in my opinion.

Suliman is interesting - I don't think he's physically ready, he's not quite big or strong enough for this league yet in my opinion, but he is technically very good and he's a mature young player - he's sensible, his positioning is good and he's calm - again, I think it'd be a huge risk putting him in there, and I think it'd be an unnecessary risk while we have Elphick on the bench - but in an emergency, he might be a better option than more Jedinak.

I'm starting to wonder if we might already have arranged a deal for Elphick to leave and are protecting him - he's not going to change the world, but he is a championship centre half - he's quite capable of filling in - I'm not sure why we're mucking about with fading midfielders when we have him available.

Why do we even bother discussing youngsters? They will just be slated if they do anything wrong. It's pointless.

Not much Bruce can do about Jedi completely missing the ball twice, but I imagine Bruce will take the flak for it

Yes Bruce will justifiably take the flak and for 2 reasons:

1) He played a midfielder out of position in Central Defence when he had a specialist central defender on the bench and full backs who have had experience of playing cental defence on the bench.

2)Despite spending all sorts of money in the summer on totally unnecessary players he left us completely exposed to inevitable injuries wiping out our central defence resulting in Jedi playing there and completely missing 2 balls costing us 2 precious points.

I mean who could possibly foresee Samba getting injured after a couple of games which his age, size and amount of recent football?

It's a miracle we have got as much out of Terry as we have and thank God Chester has stayed injury free.  Where would we be now if he had a long term injury?

Yes I damn well blame Bruce for this criminal squad mismanagement.

Didn’t think Grealish did much either other than fall over a lot and complain to the ref.

Really? I thought he was outstanding. Constantly moving the ball forwards, skipping past players, positive, winning countless free kicks, spraying passes out wide to wingers in space.

The biggest problem he had was everytime he played a positive ball forwards to a team mate, they generally lost it, passed it back or put in a dreadful cross.  Each of the innumerable free kicks he won was squandered and he foolishly teed up colleagues in plenty of space to unleash shots instead of curling them in himself which with our finishing would almost certainly have been a more productive option.
