I can't believe they seriously thought that Jol would be interested in the job, after what he put up with at Spurs why would he risk the current situation at Blues.

A lot of what I have read suggests that Blues can't afford to appoint anyone who is currently in a job due to the compensation especially as everyone knows how much they got for Bruce.

What?! No David O'Leary option?

I'd love it if he was their new manager. He'd take them down faster than a brick!

Whatever happens, they are fooked! Yeung has to be consulted on the new manager as majority shareholder and WolfPig has had a huff with him! The whole circus act is so entertaining!!!!

Did'nt O'Deary say the same about us a few years back when he was in charge - i.e. "We can't compete with the Wigans or Charltons of this world"....

Imagine the quality stuff he'd come out with as blose boss.....

Birmingham City face tough task to replace BruceNov 20 2007

By Colin Tattum, Birmingham Mail

BIRMINGHAM City are finding the going tough as they sift through potential candidates to replace Steve Bruce as manager.

Alex McLeish has joined Paul Jewell and Martin Jol in making it known that they are not interested in the post.

Eric Black has been told he will not be allowed to leave Blues and follow Bruce to Wigan as Blues board weigh up whether to offer him the job full-time. And Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp has been considered by Blues, but will not walk out on Pompey again.

Black is effectively Blues caretaker boss and, according to Wigan owner Dave Whelan, will eventually end up at the JJB Stadium.

"We will get him in the end," was Whelan's bullish statement about Bruce's erstwhile No.2.

But Blues are keeping him to his contract as they want a semblance of continuity for at least three weeks, and perhaps beyond. But if they don't decide to give him the job permanently, he would effectively be a lame duck manager.

And he would have control of a side who are fighting a relegation battle against a team he would end up joining.

When Blues waited for Bruce to sort out his gardening leave wrangle with Crystal Palace six years ago, Mick Mills and Jim Barron were placed in temporary charge for eight weeks.

Everyone knew that they were keeping the dugout warm for Bruce and although their results were creditable - five wins, three defeats, four draws - the situation was highly unsatisfactory.

As Black waits for a definitive answer to his fate - and he has the support of the players - Blues board will continue to assess various options.

McLeish's future was cast into doubt immediately after Scotland failed to qualify for Euro 2008 on Saturday.

The SFA want to tie him to a long-term contract and although it seems he could return to club football, it is not going to be with Blues.

Jewell has also distanced himself, and Jol wants to take a break from football before getting back on the treadmill.

Blues, flush with £3million compensation for Bruce, are prepared to offer a lucrative salary and have apparently been putting feelers out for some of the biggest names in Europe.

However, the board also have to be realistic and accept that Blues are hardly a top tier Premier League outfit and any big name would want significant transfer funds as well as lucrative personal terms.

Also, they would seek assurances about their position should Carson Yeung push through his buyout.

Chris Coleman's position at Real Sociedad could be of interest.

Coleman offered to resign after the president who appointed him, Maria de la Pena, quit, but he was told to carry on and await the board elections on January 3.

Others who could be under consideration are the unattached trio of Glenn Hoddle, Graeme Souness and Joe Royle.

Souness let it be known to the board that he was interested before, when he looked on shaky ground at Blackburn Rovers and Bruce was targeted by Newcastle United - only

to end up in the North East himself. Royle was interviewed and was a standby if Bruce had not been able to free himself from Palace.

Mark Hughes has long been admired by co-owner David Sullivan, and any interest there now would be highly ironic given the nature of Mark Bowen's spat with Bruce that led to him joining Hughes at Ewood Park, and Robbie Savage's acrimonious departure.

But Hughes would be a long-shot for Blues.

Mick McCarthy, in previous years, has been highly thought of by Blues and of the new breed of young managers, Adrian Boothroyd and Paul Ince, plus Gary Johnson, who has taken Bristol City from League One to the forefront of the Championship promotion race, could be outsiders.

David O'Leary has always charmed the Blues owners but in the unlikely event that they made a move for the ex-Villa boss, it would go down like a lead balloon.

Gary McAllister, who is also free from commitments, has been touted but it not thought to be in the frame.

What a might shortlist of managers!

poor bastards if tahts the best they can get i feel sorry for them...yeah right

I have no idea if it's true or not, but I found this gem of a quote on the F365 Forum:

My old man is good mates with a board member of a Premiership club and he reckons everyone looks forward to visiting St Andrews for the comedy value in the Directors Lounge.

Apparently there's more class in Jodie Marsh's bucket. the wives have all got pneumatic tits, are draped in tacky tinsel and don't have a clue about what's going on, not with the football, just in general.

You can imagine what the blokes are like as well.

Why wouldn't you want to work for them?

I really hope it is true. :)

Piss poor. Personally I think the short list at the start of this thread is better. I think the Blues board should take notice of what real football fans think and get on the phone to the clear front runner in this conclusive poll.

Which is.....er Anne Summers!

I just can't believe that Blues really think the likes of Jol, Redknapp or Hughes would even consider the job. Idiots.

that mead me laugh aswell

Its okay though they haven't taken the rejection to heart. I can exclusively reveal that Pornodwarf, Pigface and that bird who writes a column in The Sun have spent the last 24 hours locked away in their gimp room, sorry board room working on a new list.

I can also reveal the top secret list of their top candidates for the job -

Sir Alex Ferguson

Fabio Capello

Sir Alf Ramsey

Fat Barry

Apparantly they are confident that they can get one of these top targets!!!

HA HA True..

"My time at Villa, we... blah blah blah"

"Iv'e known Ridgewell since the Villa Days.. He was one of my honest bunch of lads"

"When i was at leeds... blah blah blah"

"We've got a small squad"

The interviews would be great viewing on MOTD... thats if they stay in the premier league.. which with this mess going on.. i recommend taking the best price you can get on birmingham being relegated and make some money while you can.

It gets better and better...

According to the Evening Mail they've just approached Marcelo Lippi. Surprisingly, he's turned them down. :

They aren't holding back, are they? No harm in asking I guess, but come on. Lippi?

According to the Evening Mail they've just approached Marcelo Lippi. Surprisingly, he's turned them down. :

Indeed, utterly hilarious:

No Lippi service for ambitious Blues

Italy's World Cup-winning coach Marcello Lippi has rejected the chance to replace Steve Bruce as manager of Birmingham City.

Blues co-owner David Sullivan confirmed Blues had spoken with Lippi who enjoyed great success at club level with Juventus before leading Italy to football's ultimate prize in 2006.

Sullivan has been true to his word after claiming City would attempt to bring in "a top foreign coach" and not many have greater credentials than Lippi who is currently taking a break from the game.

Sullivan told the Birmingham Mail: "We made an approach and Lippi turned it down. This is not a stunt. It's genuine.

"He is available at the moment and we are looking at bringing in a manager of his stature and calibre, if at all possible. He was one of the first we went to but unfortunately nothing materialised.

"Of course, you get knock-backs. That's football. But if you do not try you will never know. It was the same with Martin Jol. It made sense for us to approach him.

"We are juggling other balls in the air at the moment and we will see which ones land. I want to stress to our supporters that we are working very, very hard to bring in the right man.

"Until you get to meet them and speak to them, you can never be quite sure. But it won't be for a lack of trying, believe me. We are determined to find a manager who would create a bit of a stir and excite people."

Sullivan is determined to bring in a new manager within the next 10 days with Bruce's number two Eric Black acting as caretaker for Saturday's game with Portsmouth.

And he also admitted the Black "had a chance" of becoming Bruce's successor.

Sullivan said: "We will resolve the issue of a new manager within 10 days. Eric Black has taken temporary charge and that might only be for one game.

"The agreement is that he will stay up to three weeks if necessary as we can't have the club ripped apart by Steve taking everyone with him.

"It is a very difficult situation for Eric. We understand he has a massive allegiance to Steve and we also respect that he is staying behind and will do a professional job for us.

"Has he got a chance of becoming manager? Yes, he has. We will just have to wait and see what develops."

What the hell are they doing?
