bannedfromHandV
Most of my screen is now adverts, is this an intentional change or is there some form of hack/bug ongoing? Actual website content has been condensed into a narrow strip in the middle of the screen which is flanked by two large adverts. Please don't tell me this is how it's going to be now? Link to comment

Nothing has changed. Can you post a screenshot? Link to comment
0 limpid Posted September 15, 2017 Administrator Share Posted September 15, 2017 @bannedfromHandV I've suspended one of the ads - I'm not seeing it any more. Can you confirm? Link to comment
0 bannedfromHandV
Yes, seems to have gone away thanks. Sorry, was trying to do you a screenshot but was having a nightmare as at work!! 1 Link to comment
0 limpid Posted September 15, 2017 Administrator Share Posted September 15, 2017 I've reported it to the ad company that fills that one. It's supposed to be a simple banner so something has gone wrong. Link to comment
0 snowychap
Windows 7; firefox. I'm getting a banner advert that scrolls across the page (for Game) like a news headline bar. It's certainly a step change from the standard type static advert that sits at the bottom centre of the page. Link to comment
0 limpid Posted November 23, 2017 Administrator Share Posted November 23, 2017 @snowychap as always in the "site issues" forum, new issues in new threads. The scrolling ad will last throughout the Black Friday weekend. You;ll probably see other ads from Game. I'm not sure it's a "step change" from the floating bar ad that often sits at the bottom of the page. Link to comment
0 V01
It blocks the notifications bar the site uses for new posts/quotes/likes. Yes I know only one of those things will be an issue for me. Link to comment
0 limpid Posted November 23, 2017 Administrator Share Posted November 23, 2017 I'll remove it if it breaks any functions, but otherwise it's only for the weekend and will prop up the site for a while. Link to comment

Apologies about not starting a new thread but I assumed that this was a similar kind of change of advert style to the one mentioned in the OP and that you may not have been aware of it.* Obviously you are. It is very much a step change as it is immensely distracting but that's your choice to make, clearly. *Edit: Noted for future issues. Again, sorry. 0 Villan_of_oz Posted November 23, 2017 VT Supporter Share Posted November 23, 2017 The scrolling ad for game deals definitely affects usability but if its only for the weekend and it obviously benefits the site then I can deal with it. 1 Link to comment
0 Czechlad
It's very distracting. Trying to read responses while having something moving below makes reading and responding difficult. Please try to avoid these types of ads in the future. I am curious if this will affect how long users stay on the site because I am already turned off by this. Link to comment

Only three people have commented and you've all said that you can live with it. In terms of visits, it'll be higher during this period than most four day windows as there is a game. I'd rather have no ads at all, but they pay the bills. Link to comment

It also makes me feel like I am on one of those cheap sports betting sites. Link to comment

Question

Most of my screen is now adverts, is this an intentional change or is there some form of hack/bug ongoing?
Actual website content has been condensed into a narrow strip in the middle of the screen which is flanked by two large adverts.
Please don't tell me this is how it's going to be now?
