On Saturday 9th September at 15.00 following the international break we resume our Championship fixtures with the visit of Brentford.

The Bees are currently second from bottom of the table having taken only two points from their first five games of this season. Hopefully we will have stretched the gap between the two clubs from three to six points after this game.

Brentford had never beaten Aston Villa before our embarrassing 0-3 defeat at Griffin Park in January. The previous nine games between the two clubs had seen us draw three and win six. Prior to last season we had not played Brentford in a league game since 1947. We have now drawn our last two home games against them (1-1 last season & 0-0 in the 4th Round of the FA Cup in 1953 when we went on to win the replay).

We really need to make this a third consecutive home win for us. A win will push us into or near to the top half of the table and it will keep the gap between the top six and the automatic promotion places and ourselves at no more than 4 and 7 points respectively.

I’m hoping for another home win that will give us 8 points from our first 6 games of the season. Scoring 4 goals at home again would be nice and scoring twelvety would be even better!

Given how badly we have started the season, surely this is a good time for us to have a break.

With our only league win coming against a Norwich side that just got hammered by Millwall, I'd suggest these two weeks need to be used to bring in new players and work on new tactics because what we currently have does not work.

I don't think either of those two things will happen and as such I predict a 1-1 draw, with us hanging on at the end. As usual.

what was the last game you were over for?

I've probably been in Birmingham about 8 times in the past 18 months but never seen Villa in that time.  The last game was probably early 2015.

According to Brian Glanville Brentford played quite well on Saturday and are due a win. However I hope our decentish home form will see through. I have no idea what starting XI Bruce will pick, though I guess Snodgrass will start. I would like to see Hogan and Davis play together.

The result was what I was after, in case it wasn't a win and you are bad luck :P

Snodgrass will not be on the left. If we want to play a 4 at the back and go for it why not this...

                Johnstone

RDL    Chester    Terry    Taylor

                    Onomah

Adomah   Snodgrass Hourihane  Green

                       Davis

If we want to be last ballsy then...

                  Johnstone

RDL    Chester    Terry    Taylor

               Whelan Onomah

Snodgrass   Hourihane   Green

                       Davis

Onomah is not, and never ever should be, a holding midfielder.

Dreading that the international break gives Bruce longer to work on the terrible, overly defensive 5 at the back formation.

Doesn't have to be defensive

                Johnstone

     RDL        Terry       Chester

                    Onomah

Bree Snodgrass Hourihane Taylor

            Kodija        Davis

That's 3 centre backs and it's pretty much crazily attacking.
