I'd take hart over Johnstone anyway but I'd also take Johnstone ahead of Guzan everyday too - Guzan was a shocking goalkeeper , as bad as any I've seen in last 40 years down villa park .

if villa & the dr want to get out the league & win it, players like joe hart is they way forward,

man city wont want jh going to liverpool etc so villa is a great fit, if southgate says get playing in uk & perform you will be selected etc, world cup next year so a winning team with keeper must sway it.

Not necessarily true, we could achieve promotion with a player of less calibre than Joe Hart

He's very unlikely to sign, but if it does happen then it increases our chances by some way. It also increases our pulling power as has happened with John Terry.

Joe Hart: What Aston Villa would be getting - Italian football expert

Alex Dicken spoke to Goal's Mark Doyle about Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart, who Aston Villa have made an ambitious approach for

Aston Villa have made an ambitious approach for Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart following their spectacular signing of former Chelsea and England captain John Terry.

While Manchester United goalkeeper Sam Johnstone remains Villa’s likeliest shot-stopping arrival, Hart is another option being explored by Steve Bruce as he bids to find a new No.1.

England goalkeeper Hart has been made available for transfer by Man City chief Pep Guardiola, who has Claudio Bravo and new £34.7million acquisition Ederson to choose from.

Hart, 30, experienced Serie A football with Torino last season on loan, but is keen to remain on these shores ahead of England’s World Cup campaign in Russia next summer.

In a bid to gain an insight into Hart’s time out in Turin, the Birmingham Mail caught up with Mark Doyle , who reports on Italian football for Goal.

How did he perform for Torino last season - and what rating would you give him out of 10?

I'd say 5/10. He was average. Now, admittedly, he was working with a poor defence - Torino's centre-halves were particularly poor - but he still proved error-prone.

I think he made nine mistakes leading to shots and five leading to goals. Only Palermo's goalkeeper Posavec made more.

Did he embrace Italian culture during his time at Torino?

This was his big plus point - his attitude. Mihajlovic sounded him out before the deal to see if he was as cocky as rumoured and found him very humble.

The players really liked him too as he had no airs or graces. Joel Obi said he picked up basic Italian very quickly and used to have the Torino lads in stitches with stories about his City teammates.

The fans also loved him because he read up on the club history - Superga [air disaster] and all that - and really bought into the culture.

Was Pep Guardiola's decision to let him go justified?

Yeah, Pep was vindicated. Mihajlovic took a funny shot at Pep over Hart's decent footwork but he was still poor overall.

What did Torino supporters and the Italian press make of his time there?

The fans liked him. They enjoyed the novelty of having an English keeper. Many wanted him to stay. There were even banners of support.

The press turned on him as the season went on, given the mistakes never really dried up.

Do you think Premier League clubs will be interested in him this summer?

As for interest, on the evidence of last season, no, nobody would be tempted, least of all in Italy. Torino have replaced him with Sirigu and are happy with that!

Hart, however, has performed well at Premier League level in the past and can probably be excused one below-par season.

I watched a lot of Man City's YT channel a few years backs and to be fair he always seemed like a top, top guy around the training and with the off the field work. Very likeable guy, it is just when you put him in an England shirt and under pressure the bloke goes absolute mental. A sign of fear and insecurity I imagine.

Doesn't talk shit too, if he thinks he played bad he will say it. If he thinks the team played bad, he will say it. I remember he got into trouble under Mancini for speaking his mind after a few CL games.

He'd be another talker and organiser from the back. His confidence has been shaken and he's dropped some clangers, but most definitely wouldn't turn my nose up at him.

Stranger things have happened, but it's unlikely.

Confidence in goalkeeping does seem to play a big part, perhaps that's part of the reason they seem to mature later than other positions.

For those saying he's not good enough... what? He is definitely good enough for us in our current position.
