win today and we're 9 points off 6th.

10 points if Fulham win. Thats the point people keep missing. Its not just the team in 6th we have to catch, its every team from 6th to 12th.

well till 2 mins ago it was 9 points, now it's 10. Rotherham are probably not going to score.

Lansbury, Hefele, Egan, late equalisers at villa park. A 9 point gift right there. It's those give aways that will result in us coming up short but wouldn't it be nice if we are in a position to go to craven cottage in a few weeks and make it an interesting finish.

There are too many teams to rely on to **** up to have any chance of getting the play offs. We had two terrible periods of form this season which has cost us. Now if we went undefeated until the end of the season and say we only drew twice then great but the odds of that are very slim.

Even that wouldnt be enough imo.

New opposition positions
15th, 19th (up 2), 4th (up 1), 6th (up 1), 18th, 22nd, 2nd.
QPR's defeat at Derby has pretty much put the final nail in their playoff coffin.  So our game against them may be a tad easier than it might have been had they still been 1pt behind us.
Burton continue to defy.  One defeat in eight now and a mighty impressive win away at Huddersfield has put some daylight between them and the drop.  Tricky side.
Reading handed Leeds their first defeat in 8 games at the weekend after previously beating the stuttering Sheffield Wednesday.  Reading have had some very tricky fixtures recently and only suffered 1 defeat.  Another tricky side
Fulham managed to climb inside the playoff bubble at Wednesday's expense, albeit with the narrowest of victories over a hapless and now-relegated Rotherham.  It'll be interesting to see how they react to the new pressure of swapping the chasing for being chased.  Badly, I hope.
The noses continue to stink the place out.  A draw with draw specialists Ipswich means no wins in 5 and 1 win in 9 now as they make a late surge for the relegation spots.  Fingers crossed for them too.  I hope we can give them a hand.
Blackburn's desperation only intensified as they lost away to Brighton while everyone immediately above them picked up points with the exception of Bristol City.  As we're game #45 I think their plight will be much clearer by the time Villa come knocking.
Brighton as just discussed, managed a narrow win home to Blackburn and combined with Huddersfield's shock defeat at home to Burton Albion now look primed once again to go up automatically.  I'd be confident that they'll have little to play for by game 46.  I only hope we still do.

The fact that it is Fulham in 6th is a bigger obstacle for me than the 10 points difference. I think they're just as good as the Geordies and Brighton, any hope we have relies on them having a few shock losses. As I said before though, win all the games left and who knows!

We now have our last eight games ahead of us, they are:

vs Norwich (h)

vs QPR (h)

vs Burton Albion (a)

vs Reading (h)

vs Fulham (a)

vs Blue Scum (h)

vs Blackburn (a)

vs Brighton (h)

Given our recent form I think a good few of those are winnable, and I am feeling pretty positive about them. I think, with my claret and blue spectacles on slightly, we will be able to get a WWWDLWWL ... that is fairly optimistic, and complete speculation obviously, but I think doable and would give us 16 points, and thus a total of 67 points. I'd be interested to see what other think of the run in to the end of the season.

So far... my predictions are coming true. I'm like Nostradumbass.

Imagine winning the next three or four including Blues... I might actually start to believe again. Screw it, I'm getting a Steve Bruce tattoo.

New positions

19th, 4th, 7th (down 1), 18th, 22nd, 2nd

Everyone with something to play for.

Next up, Burton.  It might be 2 defeats in 8, but it's also 2 defeats in 3 for them, so their form is faltering.  We need to be careful as they'll want to do well against the local big fish, but surely Shirley this is another win for us.
Reading continue to win.  A routine 3-1 win over relegation threatened Blackburn.  9pts inside the playoffs with 6 games to go.  Jaap Stam's men will come to Villa Park full of confidence.
I hoped Fulham would handle being in 6th place badly, and they duly lost on their first outing.  This will be a pivotal game for our faint playoff hopes.
sha with a predictable loss to Brighton.  Unfortunately no-one below them could really help them in their quest for League One football next season.
Blackburn lost to Reading and stay in the drop zone although they're only 1pt from safety with a salvagable goal difference.
Brighton's win makes game 46 a little more likely to be a dead rubber for them.

So today, away to Burton Albion. I predict a win, hopefully a 0-3 or something but even a scrappy 0-1 would do the trick.

Those above us have:

Norwich vs Reading - I would say Reading are out of reach so a Norwich loss would suit us well.

Blues vs Derby - Blues are rubbish, and a filthy dirty team as we all know, but they could do us a favour if they beat Derby... not going to happen though as Zola is masterminding their downfall.

Leeds vs Preston - this is a strange one, but again we probably have to accept that Leeds have got 5th spot, so a Preston loss would suit us better?

Fulham vs Ipswich - an Ipswich win would be great for us, but they've not had a great season, but Fulham have fallen away of late, so this could be a good change for us to gain on them.

Sheff Weds vs Newcastle - a Newcastle win would be great obviously... and I'd imagine they will see off Sheffield. Fingers crossed.

So we COULD end today in 9th, 6pts off 6th... lots of ifs and buts but that's half the fun :)
