Popular Post TrentVilla Posted July 9, 2017 Moderator Popular Post Share Posted July 9, 2017 So..... Today was a pretty epic day thanks to the club and its fantastic staff, the new sponsor Unibet and a few special guests who you already know about (more on them later). A group of fans (prize draw winners from kit pre-orders), representatives of supports groups and media as well as a few local media faces were invited to meet at Villa Park this morning where a luxury coach was waiting to take us to Bodymoor Heath. The excitement built as we approached the complex and news of Stan Petrov's involvement came through via Twitter. The BMH complex is both huge and quite simply stunning and its fair to say there was a bit of a surreal feeling as we disembarked the coach being filmed and photographed. Welcomed by the brilliant club staff and representatives of Unibet we made our way into the Academy canteen and were split into our 4 teams for the day. Two in the new home kit and two in the new away kit. Then we were joined by Emile Heskey, Stan Petrov, Dean Saunders and some chap of Homes under the hammer called Dion who was seemingly held together with sticky back plastic and 3 miles of bandages, the guys each joined one of the teams - Deano being on mine. Also mixed into the sides were the likes of Matt Kendrick from the Mail, the lad from the Villa View and celeb Villa fans Marc Baylis from Coronation Street (apparently) who was a really nice bloke and proper Villa fan and Nigel Boyle (Buckles from Line of Duty) who is a ST holder at VP and another really nice guy. Once acquainted it was down to the changing rooms and a pile of kit waiting for each of us with our names next to them, so full kit, Under Amour shin pads and UA astro trainers. (all of which were ours to keep) Then it was out onto the pitches for the games, two semi finals followed by a final. We were pitched against Stan's team and playing against him while being barked at by Deano was as surreal as it was enjoyable. Stan is such a good player, his balance and ability on the ball was obvious, almost as obvious as his total desire to win even at this lowly level. I was delighted to win the ball of him a couple of times, if only to keep Deano quiet for a moment (no mean feet) and despite going a goal behind we pulled level before I notched one and put us ahead. We ended up winning 5-2 and progressing to the final, Deano popped of to do some press and Stan walked off having a right moan about his team but in the nicest possible way, it is Stan after all. Then things went a little pear shaped in true Villa fashion as both the sides in the away kits won and realisation dawned that it was a bit of a problem for the final, "We hoped this wouldn't happen" clearly not having worked for those organising the day. So off we went back in for change into the new home kits and back out onto the pitch for the final and the clash with the might of Emile Heskey. But not before Deano decided randomly to give us a demo on how he used to take penalties only to put one of the bar, the mental fence and deep into the bushes in distance. It was priceless. Anyway back to Emile and his team. Now we all know Heskey is a unit, but bloody hell he is a unit. You know you are in trouble when you try and grab a guys arm to pull him back only your hand won't actually fit around his arm!!! Heskey ran the game while Deano, well Deano had a complete nightmare and gave away 3 goals. Poor old Deano, he hadn't played in a year and he had seemingly stepped in late in the day. We went down 7-5 in the final much to my horror but not before Heskey nearly broke one of our guys in half, you really don't want to clash with that man on a pitch. But he really is a gentle giant, such a nice bloke, funny too in a way you perhaps wouldn't imagine. Playing against him and talking to him I couldn't help but see why so many of his fellow pro's appreciated him and I wondered just how good he could have been had he not been clearly such a bloody nice bloke. Dion and Oliver Phelps (from Harry Potter) presented Emile's side with the trophy (boooo) and then it was pictures, autographs and chatting with the guys. The celebs and ex players couldn't have been more approachable, it was a particular pleasure to catch up with Stan about what the future holds and to see him looking so well. Then it was back into the canteen for lunch, a few media commitments (you know how it is....) and a chat with the other sides about the day and the season to come before a coach trip back to VP with all our free kit. Unibet seem really eager to build fan involvement and seemed extremely enthusiastic about the link up with the club. As for the kits, well they are both really nice. My favourite is the away kit which is a thing of beauty and the home kit looks far better in hand than in pictures. The quality of the kits is good and the material is breathable even on a roasting day like today, they do come up small though so be cautious when ordering. I will post some up close pictures as soon as I can. There are some video's going out on social media and the website tomorrow and loads of clips and pictures on Twitter already. What a day.... we were all very lucky to get the opportunity to be a part of it. UTV

Hopefully they messed up on the online shop and those are the goalkeeper change socks, if not they will look awful with the home kit They are the 3rd socks I believe, we didn't use these today with the home or away kits.
