Conor Hourihane

Wasn't his best game but he wasn't bad. Did his job. Terrible conditions hard to judge. He looks down on confidence. That free kick he took summer him up at the moment. I hope he gets back to his best.

I thought in the first half the game was just going past him.....never seen him getting involved in any aerial ball or show any competitive edge.

better second half....but the player worries me.

after about a hour i looked at him and he looked like he had just come out of Burtons window, .....if his shorts had of been white, they would have been clean, on a night like that its worrying.

His set pieces were very good. Should have had a couple of goals from them.

I'm guessing that at least a third of our goals this season will come from set pieces. Hourihane is our best set piece taker by a distance, so he should start every game. Whether or not Bruce fancies him as a player he will make an important contribution match by match.

To just be a set piece specialist alone...is not enough.

I am very unsure about him from what i have seen so far.....doesn't get involved in the nuts and bolts of the game enough.

Big question makrs over him for me, has done very little since being here. But yesterday i do feel Bruce played him far too deep. he is not a DM!!

No He's not.....but that does not excuse him from abandoning basic requirements.

The boy O'Hare gave him a lesson on urgency and tenacity.

Needs to show much more. He's getting chances. My midfield for Cardiff game would be elmo whelan Onomah and green with lansbury playing behind hogan

Leaving out Gabby, who scored last week for Green, who didn't play well last night?

hmm.

Its tight. Green didn't play bad now let's be honest.

I thought he was a bit one dimensional.  Lost possession when he probably shouldn't have, and didn't really affect the game too brightly.

I just think that whilst Gabby has some confidence, we should use it over someone who could be good, but is maybe a little down on his luck at the minute.

That said, Green will be fine.  I do like it when he comes off the bench though, because his directness at tired defenders must be exhausting and accident prone causing.

Delivery from set pieces is slightly above average.  But other than that I agree.

The guy was one of the best midifielders in the champ last year. He has bags of ability. Lets hope for our sake we see it more often.

Didn't really take his chance to stake a claim for a place last night although conditions were awful - think I'd stick with lansbury on Saturday .

They should both be playing. It shouldn't be one or t'other.

Whelan sits, with Hourihane and Lansbury ahead of him.

Bruce just needs to be brave.

The theory is great....but my worry is when I have seen them both playing together we lack urgency and tenacity in midfield.

we can play any player anywhere.....but they have to put a competitive shift in ......opposition players WILL get in our faces, they will deny us space....Hourihane and to a lesser degree Lansbury have to impose their game on the opposition, not the other way around.

They lose out on one on ones too easily.

The jury can only be out for so long.....He has to deliver.....his pitch craft for me is very debatable.

We have many midfield players that i have doubts about....one is now leaving.

Maybe play him in his actual position? If Onomah was forced to play the DM role, I am sure the conversation going on with his topic would be much different.

for sure it is better if players play in the natural positions....but there is contradictory theories on that too.

Martin O'Neill as an example encouraged players to play in different positions .....in his eyes to learn THE GAME......There are arguments for and against.

what concerns me is when basics are not executed.....Hourihane rarely challenges for a high ball, he lets the game go past him for worrying periods of a game....thats not good for a midfielder DM or AM.

He has to make his mark IMO....Irrespective where he plays.
