Popular Post NurembergVillan Posted December 24, 2016 Author Moderator Popular Post Share Posted December 24, 2016 Christmas Eve and window 24! On paper it's a straight race between Carlos Cuellar and Dariusz Kubicki, but I've in bed all day sick so I'm treating myself, and all of you, to this. Its the time of year that we're supposed celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, and at Villa we had our own JC who had a resurrection when he came to the club. The bells are ringing! Merry Christmas kids!
DCJonah
Love that video. Ashley Young's crossing was so so good.
villanwesty88
John Carew was just superb - committed and had a big personality. We had some great chants for big JC and I loved his interactions with the fans like picking up for the ball boy for the 2-0 goal v SHA. I really miss him and regret we never got a chance to give him a farewell (same for JPA) like we did with Mellberg.
villa4europe
Yes I'm that bloke...I thought Carew blew hot and cold, when he was in the mood he was absolutely unplayable, come the end I thought he was a bit lazy but he had a great song so got away with it, the song ended up being better than him at times, much like another striker we had he was ok, nothing more

He'd have been off somewhere winning Champions League medals.

villanwesty88
Bah Humbug!! JC was part of the best Villa side in the last 10-20 years and we haven't had many better strikers that I can remember - Benteke/Yorke/JPA maybe. Fond memories for me and I'd certainly say he was better than OK.

NurembergVillan Posted December 25, 2016 Author Moderator Share Posted December 25, 2016 So, to bring the curtain down on this thread, let's have the final rundown - SPINK, Nigel DELANEY, Mark BOUMA, Wilfred MELLBERG, Olof McGRATH, Paul RICHARDSON, Kevin TAYLOR, Ian ANGEL, Juan Pablo DUBLIN, Dion ATKINSON, Dalian STAUNTON, Steve HITZLSPERGER, Thomas BOSNICH, Mark WRIGHT, Alan BARRY, Gareth EHIOGU, Ugo HENDRIE, Lee YORKE, Dwight PETROV, Stilyan BENTEKE, Christian CAHILL, Gary VASSELL, Darius LAURSEN, Martin (2+3 = 5) CAREW, John (JC) Some fairly handy players there! Any takers on a formation and lineup for that lot?!
HanoiVillan
There's today, and then 6 more days before the New Year! (I know that's not the point of an advent calendar, but I'm enjoying this thread too much)

gaffmaster
Hehe. Even our advent calendar best starting 11 has a left back and a striker on the wings. Happy Christmas VT!

(I know that's not the point of an advent calendar, but I'm enjoying this thread too much) Because I'm bored, I actually worked out who would be available for the subsequent squad numbers to the end of the month, and frankly you can see why @NurembergVillan stopped when he did. Excluding people who I literally can't remember or aren't even worth speaking of, you'd have to choose between: 25 - Tommy Johnson, Barry Bannan, Stephen Warnock, Carles Gil, Mile Jedinak 26 - Steve Stone, Craig Gardner, Andreas Weimann, Jonathan Kodjia 27 & 28 are so depressing let's move on 29 - James Collins 30 - Gabby had this number for one season 31 - Jlloyd Samuel (or Shay Given or Mark Bunn!) If those were too depressing, you could choose players who wore shirts over 31 (for at least some of the time) - Marc Albrighton, Darren Bent, Nathan Baker, Jack Grealish, Albert Adomah, Ross McCormack

Zatman
Bosnich Mellberg God Laursen Staunton Hitzlsperger Taylor Barry Yorke Benteke Atkinson not much width but solid at the back with good set-piece for the strikers
VILLAMARV
Spink Delaney Mellberg GOD(c) Staunton Petrov Richardson Barry Atkinson Dublin Yorke Only ones I had a think about were Spink/Bosnich, Mellberg/Laursen/Ugo, Petrov/Taylor and Dublin/Carew/Benteke the rest kinda pick themselves from that list imo.
Grasshopper
I have the feeling most of you guys never saw our league & European Champs team. Really only God, Platt, Yorke, A Gray, Benteke come anywhere near close

Oh and bozzy
