The VT Advent Calendar 2016

John Carew was just superb - committed and had a big personality. We had some great chants for big JC and I loved his interactions with the fans like picking up for the ball boy for the 2-0 goal v SHA. I really miss him and regret we never got a chance to give him a farewell (same for JPA) like we did with Mellberg.

Yes I'm that bloke...I thought Carew blew hot and cold, when he was in the mood he was absolutely unplayable, come the end I thought he was a bit lazy but he had a great song so got away with it, the song ended up being better than him at times, much like another striker we had

he was ok, nothing more

It's consistency that separates the good from the great, and if Carew had been consistent he would never have found his way to Villa Park. He'd have been off somewhere winning Champions League medals.

There's today, and then 6 more days before the New Year!

(I know that's not the point of an advent calendar, but I'm enjoying this thread too much)

Because I'm bored, I actually worked out who would be available for the subsequent squad numbers to the end of the month, and frankly you can see why @NurembergVillan stopped when he did. Excluding people who I literally can't remember or aren't even worth speaking of, you'd have to choose between:

25 - Tommy Johnson, Barry Bannan, Stephen Warnock, Carles Gil, Mile Jedinak

26 - Steve Stone, Craig Gardner, Andreas Weimann, Jonathan Kodjia

27 & 28 are so depressing let's move on

29 - James Collins

30 - Gabby had this number for one season

31 - Jlloyd Samuel (or Shay Given or Mark Bunn!)

If those were too depressing, you could choose players who wore shirts over 31 (for at least some of the time) - Marc Albrighton, Darren Bent, Nathan Baker, Jack Grealish, Albert Adomah, Ross McCormack

                        Spink

Delaney Mellberg GOD(c) Staunton

         Petrov Richardson Barry

         Atkinson Dublin Yorke

Only ones I had a think about were Spink/Bosnich, Mellberg/Laursen/Ugo, Petrov/Taylor and Dublin/Carew/Benteke the rest kinda pick themselves from that list imo.

I have the feeling most of you guys never saw our league & European Champs team.

Really

only God, Platt, Yorke, A Gray, Benteke come anywhere near close

I think James Millner and Gareth Barry and John Carew and Martin Laursen could credibly be swapped into the league winning side for Bremner, Mortimer, Withe, and McNaught as like for like with no loss of quality or heart as well as those you mention. Oh and bozzy
