Drug Driving (UK)

Hi all

With the festive season amongst us very shortly, WMP will be rolling out their Drink and Drug driving campaign throughout December. We all know about the drink driving devices/punishments, but the drug driving devices have been in action for 2 years in March 2017. At the moment I don't know of anyone who has been caught/prosecuted for this offence. I know of many people who take drugs, me being one of them. I guess many of us will know or know of someone who takes drugs, there will also be many people who take drugs without anybody else knowing.

Most evenings I smoke a spliff or two after work to unwind and relax. I struggle to switch off after work and I also have problems sleeping a lot of the time. For me the weed helps me with these problems, I'm sure someone will tell me medically I'm wrong etc, but it works for me. I have smoked on and off since I was 16 and maybe a little earlier than that. I stopped last year for around 5 months but started again over Xmas catching up with friends and socialising, this has continued up until now.

It came to me the other night that the drink and drug campaign will be up and running again in the next couple of days. Now I NEVER drive stoned, i only smoke once i know i haven't got to drive anywhere for the rest of day/night. I smoked last night as i was stressed out (the weed probably not helping this.) I do a little bit of driving in the days at work and then drive to and from work each day.

The reason for this post really is does anyone actually know how long weed stays in Saliva? Lots of conflicting information on this. I obviously don't want to get caught for this and lose my licence. Now the obvious answer is stop all together, and i will be trying to do this from today onwards (struggling at the moment to be honest).

Does anybody know of anyone been prosecuted? And if so do you know the details of this? such as last time smoked and when tested and result?

Sorry for long post, trying to keep my mind busy lol

Is this the active THC that the saliva tests for or is this the non active metabolite that stays in fat etc?

and out of interest where did you get this information from?

Don't get to thinking all users are the same and all drug strengths are the same and one toke measures the same 4.

Rather than trying to calculate if you will or won't lose your license, don't drug n drive. Or to put it another way, if you need to think about the answer, stop doing one or the other.

You should be less worried about the reading on the meter and more concerned about the poor clearing in the woods your car or van goes in to 'cos you drove whilst being a space cadet.

info

But incidentally, I work in a couple of places that don't test on Mondays. So people can get recreational on Fridays and Saturdays.

Fair comments mate. I am a responsible user (if there is such thing!) like i say i never drive whilst high or anything like that and never would. First of all I'm going to try and stop asap as its well overdue and Its just pure habit that i smoke, i don't even enjoy the buzz anymore!!! Im more interested in the facts as there is not much out there on it and imo i don't agree with it if the drugs were used days before, if like drink driving you are driving whilst under influence then i completely agree. I haven't seen or heard any evidence that suggests that cannabis effects you days after use. I certainly don't experience this even the very next day.

I read somewhere that the government actually went against all the advice given by doctors etc to enforce this. How true this is i don't know.

Ahh it wasn't a personal pop, lovely. But reading it back, it could easily be taken that way.

I know a few people that appear to think they can hit it hard all weekend and then drive down the motorway on a Monday morning setting the land speed record. Now, it's probably as much to do with the lack of sleep as anything else, but they cannot be at their best, whilst trying to pan it down the M1 to be in London for 8:00am. I'm not a fan of that lifestyle.

But what I was also trying to say, was that you can't know how strong something is so you can't measure the time it's in your system, shirley?

No that's fine mate, i didn't take it that way just wanted to make my position clear. Cant really comment on the other drugs but i suspect the others effect you a lot more than cannabis does hence the grading difference. I do get it and i do understand why the drug tests are in place i just struggle to understand how they can enforce this consistently days after the drugs were used, especially if they went against the advice of professionals.

There has to be a more accurate way of telling when the drugs were used, my mate said the tests can see up to 72 hours after use.

Very tricky subject, weed shouldn't be illegal imo, absolute waste of police time and resources but then others will say otherwise. Then there's the whole debate about the pros and cons of them legalising it which i wont get into as its a minefield lol
