ozvillafan Posted November 13, 2016 VT Supporter Share Posted November 13, 2016 1. Mother is Dutch, father is Hungarian - but I was born and live in Sydney, Australia. 2. Sydney FC... if you can call it "support". Been years since I went to a game. 3. Mark Bosnich. In 1994 he was the only Australian footballer in the premier league and made news down here with his heroics in the League Cup for Villa. I took an interest in Villa from then. I found this site (though it looked different back then!) and have been hooked ever since.
Villarocker
Not a personal experience of mine but one of my best mates had had great responses to being a Villa fan whilst on holiday. He went to Turkey with his family when Alpay was playing for us. He wore his Villa shirt and he, his kids, brother and missus had gone to a bar in a neighbouring town. They played pool and had food/drink etc. The gaffer noticed the Villa shirt and couldn't do enough for them and started giving free beers and let them play pool for free etc. He then went to Bulgaria when Petrov was playing for us and had a similar experience to the above. I think it goes to show how passionate people abroad are about their national players. I doubt you'd get the same here if it was the other way around.
Popular Post villa82
1. Norway. 2. Sogndal, my local team. In the top division, but will never win the league. (Leicester?) Manager of that team, a former player at Villa, Eirik Bakke. I see him regulary, as we have kids at the same age, but I have never talk about Villa with him. Mr Bakke have a son, best player at his age... 3. Started supporting Villa in the late seventies. An older friend showed me a poster, put his finger on one player and told me that that was the best player. I think that player was Dennis Mortimer. Almost all my other friends supported Lpool, and some few manu or Arsenal. There have been times I regret my choice of club, but will never end my love to the club. I have a pretty good record, have seen Villa live four times, won all games, conceded only one goal (including a penalty shoot out) and even seen a Stan Collymoore hattrick! Best player In those games, Paul Merson. Best moments: may the 26 1982, semi final against Tranmere, final against manu and when Randy Lerner bought the club, gave me hope. worst moments..too many, but I remember us play 0-0 against coventry and Steve Bruce scored two late goals for manu against SheffW. Ended our hope of winning the first PL season. Hopes for the future: Do a Manchester city! Including the area around Villa Park.
NoelVilla
Skåne south Sweden where Malmö is the biggest city. I support Malmö FF. Never go anymore and I rarely watch the games. Check the results I do. The first game I remember watching was that game in Rotterdam. So when I was supposed to pick a team in England like all swedish kids had to do my choice was easy. I have went to Villa Park once a year for a long time. Stopped 3 years as a personal boycott against Randy Lerner. Will be going again in April.

He made some terrible mistakes, but he went through his period of soul searching and redemption, and now he is an excellent pundit, and he is still to this day passionate about Villa. If he wrote a book, I would buy it. Sorry ( Off topic)
nick76
1. Born in Castle Brom, grew up in Erdington but have lived in Sydney for the last 12 years 2. Desperately tried to support football in Sydney but I find the quality poor and frustrating, and when you don't have the connection like we do with the Villa from birth you have a choice of watching or not, thus I don't. It proved to me watching local football that if Villa wasn't part of who I am then I would've left Villa a few seasons ago because quality has been poor for so long. As a Villa fan though that will never happen and I keep coming back every week..... 3. Grandfather was a Villa fan. I followed Villa home and away from my teenage years up until the age of 27 when i moved to Sydney for a job opportunity. Due to my current global role I get to come back to the UK a couple of times a year at least and recently went to the Newcastle game. Back in Sydney for the last few years we get to see most Villa games in the PL live on TV so I have got up at silly times on a Sunday morning to watch. This season is a little harder after being relegated as we aren't on TV very much apart from highlights.

Popular Post Banger75
1. I'm from Bundaberg (you might know the rum?) in Queensland, Australia. 2. Brisbane Roar fan - have been to the 3 grand finals here in Brisbane - ''Orange Sunday's'' they call them as the team wear a Holland-like strip, and 50,000 supporters at Suncorp Stadium in orange is a sight to behold! 3. Back in the 60's an ex-Brummie moved to Bundaberg, and sought permission from Villa to use the club name, crest and colours for our local club. I played junior football for Villa from under 9 through to seniors. We played in a replica of the 82 strip in my first year, and progressed through the replica kits until I made senior in 1991/92 when we wore the replica Mita Copiers umbro kits! My claim to fame is a photo of our seniors in that strip in a Villa match day programme, which I still have! The club still exists there, but have merged with a large local rugby league club to now be called ''Brothers Aston Villa'', but the colours still remain. So i guess I've been hooked since my first game for Villa in 1983. I've met some Villa fans throughout the years around Australia - but funnily enough my business engaged a non-executive Director for business support who I found out later is a massive Villa fan, and was even at that famous game in Rotterdam in 82. Now we both interrupt board meetings for our standing agenda item to chat about Villa!! I had my first visit to Villa park last year for the game against Swansea - which ended up being Sherwood's last game....that game epitomised Villa over the last few years, but didn't dampen my experience which I loved and will never forget. ThunderPower_14
Born and live in Adelaide, Australia. Nominally I support Adelaide United over here but i'd happily see the club fold if it meant Villa winning a meaningless friendly. My Dad's side of the family is from Birmingham, and moved over when Dad was 4. When Grandad died in 1997 I was told he had been a Villa supporter and that was that. 23 hours ago, Villan_of_oz said: OT but if any Aussie Villans live in or near Adelaide or ever visit Adelaide please inbox me I would love to catch up and talk Villa or even watch a game (if thats possible by then) the last time I socialised with fellow Villans was FA cup final against Chelsea its been a long time..... Hey mate, get in touch with the South Australian Aston Villa F.C. supporters group on facebook. Through that you can become a member of the Adelaide Lions supporters club. I only really go and meet with them for the big games, last one was the FA Cup final, but I know they meet regularly for a catch up and to watch games and discuss all things Villa and they are a good bunch of blokes from my experience with them.
Spoony
1. English but living in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. 2.No local team here. There are some teams but football isn't really a big deal for the locals. 3.I bizarrely support Villa because of Peter Schmeichel. He was my hero growing up as a goalkeeper and I didn't actually support a team. He moved to Villa and I wanted a new goalkeeping top and I liked that blue one so I thought sod it I'll support Villa. He left briefly after but I ended up falling in love with the club in that year and I have supported them ever since. If I'd have just waited one sodding year I could have been a Man City fan celebrating all their success in the country of their owners!!!
AndFos
where are you from? Haugesund, Norway what team (if any) do you support in your homeland? Haugesund how did you come to support Villa? Me and my father (Who was a Spurs fan, bless him) betted on some games, and he told me that Villa where in good goalscoring form, despite being placed 17. in the league. We were playing Sheffield Wednesday at the time, which was 15. I think. We got an odds of 2/1, and we won 2-1.
