He was talking about when he was the opposition and the stick we gave him. He took that well and laughed it off. In that Radio 5 interview he also talked about wearing a hood at times and how the fans at Liverpool layed into him - he clearly did mind. Think it's fair game when managing/playing for the opposition, but calling our own manager 'potato head' is different gravy. I think he will mind, privately, which is why it doesn't sit well with me. I just don't think he'll be thinking "those villa fans eh, what a great sense of humour, calling me potato head, they're really taking the piss out of themselves for being daft and fickle you know". To me the battle lines and been redrawn and it should be consigned to history. Not going to say anymore about it because people will make-up their own minds and the crowd will decide on Sat/Tues. I'll be sitting that one out though. Yep I also accept and understand that there are 2 completely opposing viewpoints on this, and that both mean well in their own way. But I think I'm on your side of the fence on this. The deciding factor for me is respect. I want to respect our manager and I want him to respect us, so I think the banter can come in less personally-insulting ways. We're both (fans and manager) on the same side now. Slagging his appearance does not do that any good. It can't really. I think the potato head days should be gone now. Although I highly suspect that they won't be, because it's too convenient to trot out and no doubt high-larious when heard from the home stands. I live in hope though.
Popular Post AntrimBlack
He may be saying he finds it funny, what else can he say. Would any VT'ers find it funny if they were being called that? I certainly would not. Never mind the `banter' lol lol lol, lets try to move on and show a bit of class.
PaulC
He probably does find it funny to be fair. A lot of people couldn't care less what others think of the way they look.

PaulC
Regarding his appointment, I dont care whether he managed the Blues but I will always feel slightly annoyed that his late goals against Shef Wednesday prob cost us the title back in 92/3

I think Saturday is a little early to start judging him, especially when most the prep for the Wolves game hasn't been done by him. I really hope the fans give him time, the club is in a mess and will need time to sort. All the booing doesn't help.

It just depends what you expect over and above the very subjective term 'improvement' really.
GENTLEMAN
Bruce was really positive about Saturday's game against Wolves - proper hyping it up - he made me wish I was playing against Wolves . We need a good week to bridge the points gap with the top 6. Come on Brucie, roll on those Ws.
BOF Posted October 14, 2016 Moderator Share Posted October 14, 2016 Bruce was manager of Sunderland when they sold us Darren Bent (who probably kept us up that season), so he's already done us a solid* * yes I know it didn't pan out quite that way ... It's about respect and throwing insults around isn't respectful, even if they're not intended to harm. Slight off topic, but I **** hate the way "banter" gets used.

Even if the intention isn't to harm, it doesn't mean the insult doesn't sting. Claiming it's "just banter" is a classic bully's excuse, nullifying the recipient's feelings about being the subject of the "banter". I won't be singing potato head.
