Christian Fuchs should have been booked for throwing the ball at Alexis Sanchez "on purpose" during Arsenal's 1-0 win over Leicester, says Arsene Wenger.

As Leicester chased an equaliser, defender Fuchs took a throw-in and seemingly aimed the ball at Sanchez.

The Chilean, who went down theatrically after a short delay, was booked for standing too close to the throw-in.

"Fuchs was lucky not to get a yellow card because he threw the ball at him on purpose," said Arsenal boss Wenger.

The ball hit Sanchez on the shoulder, but the 28-year-old fell to the ground clutching his face and was shown a yellow card by referee Mike Jones for not retreating far enough.

According to the Football Association's 'Laws of the game', law 15 states that "opponents must stand at least two metres from the point at which the throw-in is taken".

"In the first two attempts when Fuchs tried to throw the ball in, Sanchez stood next to him and didn't know he had to be further away," said Wenger.

"Also the referee did not tell him to move further away and after that he got a yellow card because he didn't accept the rule. I accept that. He was not the required distance. The referee or the linesman should have told him."

Sanchez later posted pictures on Twitter of his split lip, but Wenger revealed that it came from a separate incident, which he was similarly unhappy about.

"Robert Huth went really in with him I think," he added. "I helped him to get up and he was bleeding on the lips."

Why Arsenal are going nowhere, and are nowhere near challenging for top honours.

Bunch of babies, led by a baby. Garbage mentality.

All I think from that is how stupid Fuchs was. How can you not throw the ball over someone 5ft 6. He's hardly Peter Crouch is he?

Team losing with a minute left and chance to put ball in the box and he's more concerned with throwing the ball straight at another player. Alexis hardly covered himself in glory but tbh the ref should've been stronger and ordered him away or booked him the first time he did it.

If you don't want to be hit by a ball from a throw-in, don't stand in front of it.

And certainly don't jump up to meet the f**king thing.  That's what gets me about the scenario.  He literally attempted to get hit in the face with the ball.  So you kinda lose the right to call foul WHEN IT F**KING HAPPENS.

It's actually amusing that all talk of Wenger leaving has ground to a halt and it seems a certainty he'll stay on (as was probably always the case).

He suddenly hasn't morphed back into a genius.

All they've done in the last few weeks is beat a relegation cert in Boro narrowly away and Leicester at home which was a very fortunate goal.

Fair enough they beat Man. City in the cup but Sherwood showed a few years back an underdog could prosper in a semi final.

Winning the cup hasn't done Arsenal much good last few seasons. I really don't see them beating Chelsea and they're still very likely to miss out on top 4. They remain a club in denial.

absolute shambles. Players were gutless and put in no effort that I would sack them all.

1st goal was 7 players staring at Alli as he knocked it in and less said about Chamberlain pathetic attempt at a clearance

I'm regulalry amongst Arsenal fans and, by God, I hate the words removed so much. After putting that little run together, the arrogance came back out again and there was talk about how they'd finish top four. I was even hearing how they'd sneak top three.

The Wenger fan bois are the worst...you'd think there's nobody in world football who can replace him. Like you said - a club in denial and I hope they end up totally empty handed this season. They've surpassed themselves as the club I most hate in London. I sometimes feel I hate them more than SHA these days given I don't have any exposure to the knuckle draggers, but have to suffer these lot on a day to day basis. They're a horrible, horrible buch of up their own arse tossers.

The result flatters them too. A couple of absolute sitters were wasted by Spurs.

Both sets of fans can do one, IMO, such arrogant moaners.

Assuming they lose in the cup final, I just can't see how a trophy-less season and failure to secure champions league football can be accepted by anyone at the club. It's possible that he will be sacked at the end of the season.

If so... would you have him here?

LOL he is still way out our league.

Perhaps. Perhaps not - if Tony could weave some magic.

Regardless.... you didn't answer the question.;)
