He could possibly be used as a make weight in a deal somewhere along the line. At the moment numbers are a problem and until that changes he’s a useful option. On a good day at least.

On current form we will want him to stay!

Think he's got what it takes in the prem. Last time we were there we had Gestede, Ayew and Sinclair. They all got goals in the prem and he's better than them and knows the squad to boot.

I don’t think we should sell him but how has a guy that many didn’t feel was good enough last season in the Championship all of a sudden become ready for the Premier league?

Good question.... I think Kodjia however will be far more suited to Prem football than Championship. Some players just are. He will/should want to impress being on the biggest stage for the first time. As infuriating as he can be there is no doubt he could easily hit double figures with enough game time and as we've seen time and time again he scores just when we need him too. The more options up front the better imo. I definitely would not let him go anywhere just yet.

On the flip side many did feel he was good enough for the championship, its probably those same people that think he is good enough for the Premier League.

I'm one of them, I don't get why some Villa fan don't rate him to be honest. I think he's the most skilful player at the club and proved his worth time and again. He only played a bit part last season and still come out with 9 goals and 7 assists.

The only time he was given a run in the side was when Abraham was injured and he scored 3 goals in 4 games.

Yes he occasionally tries too much, and occasionally doesn't release the ball quick enough, but thats because he's skilful and backs himself to be able to do something. Because of this people forget the times when he does something special because they expect it or just dont appreciate it because they hold some kind of grudge against him. Like when he dribbled around 2 or 3 players and set up Hourihanes goal against Leeds. If Grealish had done that then there would have been a gif made and played over and over on Villa social media.

Wait hold up, 7 assists? Damn. Being involved in 16 goals in 20 or so appearances is actually really damn good.

I agree with pretty much most of what you say. Not certain I agree about being the most skilful player in the club - I'd give this to Jack - though  there is not much in this - I'd say without hesitation he is the most skilful striker in the club and I would like to keep him.

Decent stats to be fair.

He just looks way off the pace to me. All about opinions I guess.

Last season the discussion was framed around him being one of our star players. Now we're looking at him as a squad player.

Yes, we're stepping up a level, but the bar is still probably a bit lower for a PL backup striker than a Championship striker leading the line for a team chasing automatic promotion.

Kodj has a better record in the Championship than Ashley Barnes, for example, who is the same age as him, and that's someone who's managing to start regularly in the PL now. Not saying he's going to set the world on fire, but most of the teams we're up against have about 3-4 specialist strikers in their squad, and Kodj seems at a comparable level to a lot of the 3rd choice players. Have a look at teams like Burnley, Bournemouth, Watford. They all have someone who is a 15-20 goal player in the Championship.

Sorry it was actually 9 goals and 2 assists, was looking in the wrong place

He did have a pass accuracy of 85% though

It was to his misfortune (and our good fortune) that Tammy was on fire for 3/4 of the time he was here, and by the time he went off the boil, he was still flying high on what he had already done - so was still getting picked despite a string of poor performances towards the end - understandably so.

As an out and out striker, I’d have had him over Tammy every day of the week.  Tammy’s general contribution and genuine leadership qualities were head and shoulders above kodj, and hence the preference in the team, but ability wise, Kodj would get the nod.

I remember both assists too. One was a lovely through ball for Tammy against, I wanna say Rotherham at home and the other was a nice run and lay off for Hourihane against Leeds at home. He's put in some nice displays at VP this season. It's away from home he seems to struggle sometimes.
