I cant quote the whole article from my phone but there is very good peice about Dalian's life and career on the BBC, entitled;

'living at speed on and off the pitch'

Dalian Atkinson's life was cut short at the age of 48 when he died after being Taseredby police outside his father's home. The former Ipswich Town, Sheffield Wednesdayand Aston Villa forward was remembered ata poignant funeral service on Saturday.

Three decades earlier, it would have been impossible to imagine that this would be how the story would end for the fleet-footed footballer with an eye for the ladies and a love of fast cars. Those who knew him in hisearly years at Ipswich Town have been talking to the BBC about that time, when his talent and raw speed were apparent from the moment he arrived.

Wow, now I feel old. 25 years ago today!

25th Anniversary of Dalian's goal

On this day in 1992, Dalian Atkinson scored what is still regarded by many people as Villa’s outstanding Premier League goal.

We were just a couple of months into the new competition when Atkinson conjured up his remarkable solo effort during a 3-2 victory over Wimbledon at Selhurst Park.

It was described in the 1993 Villa Review as a “gleaming diamond” after Atkinson sprinted from his own half, shrugging off one challenge after another, before sending a delicate chip over keeper Hans Segers from just outside the penalty area.

I think there is a lot of rose tinted specks when looking back on Dalian’s time here.

What if anything has happened to the officers involved in his death, there was talk of charges at one point?

Of course. It's the same when people die, and you get someone saying what a lovely bloke he was. No he wasn't, he was a clearing in the woods.

There are solid moral reasons not to speak ill of the (recently) deceased, unless there's an over-riding need to do so.

The pre-inquest review has been put back till January was the last thing I heard. It's been caught up in the Randox Testing scandal.

Dalian Atkinson toxicology tests delayed, Shrewsbury inquest hears

26 September 2017

An inquiry into the death of ex-footballer Dalian Atkinson has been delayed due to a "quality failure" at a forensic testing firm, an inquest has heard.

The former Aston Villa star died 90 minutes after being Tasered by police in Telford, Shropshire, in August 2016.

"Potentially compromised" toxicology samples are being re-tested, Shropshire Coroner's Court was told. A pre-inquest review into Mr Atkinson's death was adjourned until January.

In a statement read to a pre-inquest hearing in Shrewsbury, Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) operations team leader Paul Marriott said toxicology analysis of the samples was allocated to Randox Testing Services. The statement said:

"This analysis was completed, however a quality failure within Randox Testing Services was subsequently identified, which potentially compromised a significant number of cases across the criminal justice system nationally."

"Due to the number of cases impacted by this issue, Avon and Somerset Police were tasked to co-ordinate the re-testing nationally and they categorised the cases in order of priority."

The IPCC said re-testing was expected to be completed next week and a toxicology report would then be sent to the pathologist, who would complete a final post-mortem examination report.

In May the National Police Chiefs' Council said a criminal probe was under way into allegations of "data manipulation" linked to Randox Testing Services. It said the allegations related to data that supported samples and there was no evidence of manipulation of actual samples.

Two police officers could face criminal charges over the death of former footballer Dalian Atkinson who was shot with a Taser by police.

The 48-year-old died in August 2016 after contact with West Mercia Police officers at his father's house in Telford, Shropshire.

Mr Atkinson had played for Aston Villa, Sheffield Wednesday and Ipswich Town.

The CPS referral follows an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

The IOPC said during its investigation, three West Mercia Police officers were interviewed twice under criminal caution and served with gross misconduct notices.

The actions of the third officer have not been referred to the CPS.

Some chance that justice will be done although you would normally expect the CPS to sweep this under the carpet so the police can be free to go merrily tasering on their way.

On this day in 1992, Villa played their first match in the newly-formed FA Premier League.

Dalian Atkinson had the distinction of scoring our first Premier League goal, his late equaliser earning a 1-1 draw against Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

The two subsequent home games also ended 1-1 – with Atkinson scoring against both Leeds United and Southampton.
