Daniel
Cant really fault anyone out there today. Chester had a strong game, didn't like the sulking from Ayew, but other than that, it was a very good performance from us.

troon_villan
What a goal from Greizmann. Reminds me of his Notts County highlights. Dancing through defenders and putting the keeper on his arse '

Ikantcpell
First villa game for years i havent been able to watch, so typical it's a 3-0 win. Oh well, the long journey back has begun.
Lichfield Dean Posted August 13, 2016 VT Supporter Share Posted August 13, 2016 Just back. Terrific atmosphere. Tony came onto the pitch like a rock star and was sung about all game. The new players looked good. After a shaky start everybody seemed to settle down and grow in confidence. Tshibola started to find his feet a bit - still a bit raw but some very good work at times. Gestede - what happened to him? He was excellent, two cracking goals and some top notch defending at set pieces. And the there was Jack - once we got the lead he seemed to suddenly be let off the leash and was leading the line for us at times. He made some brilliant attacking runs, was a pest, passed backwards much less than we were used to. His shooting is still pretty terrible, but his goal was fantastic (even though I though he was going to bypass the goal entirely without shooting). A much improved performance. Yes, it was Rotherham. But we needed a good win, especially after the Luton shambles. And our new defence definitely provided a basis for us to build on. Fingers crossed this is a turning point for us.

Popular Post OutByEaster? Posted August 13, 2016 Moderator Popular Post Share Posted August 13, 2016 Lots of good things today - from Dr Tony's pre match pitch appearance to the wonderful feeling of noticing that when the opposition pick up the ball in the midfield, your back four are all in the positions you'd expect them to be, to good goals, some champagne football and Jack's dad going mental when Jack squeezed home his goal. Sunshine and lovin! Gollini (7) - didn't really make a save but seemed pretty assured and kicked well. He's got a good presence about him. Bacuna (8) - a right back who, thanks to not knowing the position as well as some of our other 'right backs' plays it sensibly - he was excellent in the first half particularly, possibly our best player and on his odd foray forward he crossed it pretty well too. In the second half when we were all piling forward, he got further forward and looked a little less assured, but this was a good day for him and he got a good reception. Elphick and Chester (8) - neither of them look like they're going to do anything massively impressive, they don't have incredible recovery pace, they aren't physical monsters, they aren't completely dominant in the air - instead, they seem to be concentrating on being in the right place and defending properly. I prefer this. I'm also a big fan of Elphick's interaction with the Holte End and his efforts to get both the team and the support up for it. Cissokho (7) - Didn't do anything daft, crossed for our first goal and looked competent. That'll do. Westwood (7) - Kept us ticking, cleared up stuff, wasn't required to try anything more expansive - he looks a better player when he does the stuff he's better at - funny that. Tshibola (7) - or maybe (8) - at times he looked very good and you can see potential that's in him, he's better on the ball than I'd anticipated, he loses the odd battle in midfield and wins his share too and he was instrumental in our first goal - late on there was a moment of danger in our box when he came in and calmly cleaned everything up - I liked that most. Ayew (7) - in and out of it and got a silly booking for calling the linesman a naughty name. When he's in it though, he's a joy. The run where he set up Gestede for what should have been the hat trick and put the defender on his arse was fabulous as was the panic he caused in helping us score our second. Grealish (9) - of late Jack has been playing like he's trying to be 'mature', not let anyone down, make good decisions, track back, all of that stuff - now he needs some of that, but he's at his best when you can tell he believes he's the best thing since sliced bread, when he's cheeky, impudent, graceful and a step above everyone else - a wonderful turn and touch on about twenty minutes suggested there was some confidence in him and his goal was fantastic. If he stays this way, we'll be fun to watch. McCormack (7) - he's a good link man, he sees things well and he's got both positional sense and a lovely touch, plus he's busy for a fat lad. He was a nuisance all day to their back line and if he keeps this up, goals will follow. Now if he could just miss the first defender from free kicks please. Gestede (8) - Hello there, where've you been? Won loads in the air, held the ball up intelligently and made the runs that put him in the position to score goals - a very good centre forward performance, probably his best for the club. Also, gymnastics - who knew?!? The manager got it right and did the right things - everyone on the pitch seemed to have a job and an idea of how to do it, the subs worked the way they were supposed to and the result reflects simple things done well and some lovely football up front as the cherry on the cake. Bravo. MotM - confidence (10) - good to see him back after a couple of seasons out on loan.

Ponky
Rudy's gymnastics after his second goal might have been a bit of a nod to all those of us out there questioning his mobility. Good on him.
