cyrusr Posted June 21, 2016 VT Supporter Share Posted June 21, 2016 By the looks of it Newcastle and Norwich have got a bye to round 2... That's what we get for being truly atrocious last season!
SirSteveUK
I cant access the link - but that's what we get for being bottom - even if we had ended up just a point behind them.. The number of teams in the first round entirely depends on the number of PL teams in Europe.. We are "third" ranked in the CH - and they need 70 teams in the 1st round - so we're in it from the start. Last season there were 8 PL teams in Europe - so ALL the non-PL teams had to start in the 1st round last season. So we will be drawn against any League 2 team or any of the bottom 11 from League One (last season) Edited June 21, 2016 by SirSteveUK

jackbauer24
How do they work out North and South? I've always wanted to watch Villa play Shrewsbury, but we're in different parts of the draw! Where's the cut?! Cambridge is also in North despite being further south than Brum...
It's Your Round
No idea how it works but I bet southerners are to blame. They always get confused about anything north of Watford gap.
Demitri_C
God how Lame being in the first round of league cup. Hope we get a premiership team in round 2 and go out want to concentrate on league we dont need cup distractions this year as we will have no chance of winning it with a championship team. StewieGriffin
Please god let us draw Carlisle. My dad and his family are all from there - he's lived in Birmingham for nearly 40 years and they've never played us, Birmingham, Wolves or Albion

Of course they are based in London so do struggle with "North"...

Shrewsbury is 40 odd miles away whereas Southend is 150 miles away and considerably further south! I'd love to know their criteria!

Milwall / Bradford also seeded - so we wont get them. Bearing in mind that the seeded teams are chosen by league position - would have thought it would be difficult to draw on regional basis

That last game was the only one that they won against us and we won our only League Cup game against them on our way to the 1971 League Cup Final. Bring them on for your Dad! 1 hour ago, a m ole said: What the **** is a 'first round'? It is a distant memory for those of us who are old enough to remember it. We last played in the first round of the League Cup in 1972 when we beat Hereford 4-1 and even played in the first round of the FA Cup in 1970 and 1971 losing away to Torquay and Southend respectively. I have to say that It just does not seem right that we are back in a first round tie again but it shows just how far we have fallen and how accommodating the competition has now become to teams who are in Europe. 1 hour ago, Demitri_C said: God how Lame being in the first round of league cup. I accept your point but we won it in 1975 and we were promoted that same year so lets do both!
