Memory Lane

When I was a kid, a Muslim family from Trinidad lived next door. The kids were roughly my age. They had a swimming pool in their back yard. One summer, their aunt was staying with them. On one day that summer, my father heard screaming coming from their yard. He went over there and found the aunt floating downwards in the pool, dead.

Seriously...have you got ANY memories that don't involve death, divorce or cruelty?

Of course, but they're just not as interesting!

Except for the squirrel story.

I used to love to play frisbee outside, I had no one to play with so just used throw it up and down the garden running from one end to the other. I don't think this is related to that but also remember at one stage asking for a boomerang, which I didn't get.

The best toy we had growing up was a dart. No dart board, just a dart.

  • 7 months later...

In the 1970's power cuts I was in the living room on my own eating boiled eggs with soldiers, watching Big John Little John on the telly and the power went out leaving me in complete darkness.  I screamed so badly I was completely terrified.

I also remember in my infant school there was some kind of tree or large Bush that had long thin thorns on it.

We used to pierce the outer layer of skin on our finger tips with them and wear them like a fashion piercing.

I know I've mentioned it before, but i've been helping my Dad catalogue some of my old toys and eBaying them. When doing it, had a few nostalgia pangs remembering playing with them when i was young. I've kept the Star Wars figures and started to add one or two originals to my collection via eBay. I've only got about 25-30 (perhaps one for the Hobbies thread)

Made me look at what toy lines I was into. The main ones were:

Masters of the Universe, Star Wars, Thundercats, M*A*S*K, Zoids and TMNT. After the turtles, I got into consoles at about 11 years old and that was it for 'toys'. It was all Street Fighter II and Super Mario then!

I've also found odd other toys as well; A-team figures, the Knight Rider car, a solitary Action Force figure and a few Transformers and Go-Bots.

So, what toy lines did you play with as a kid? What was your favourite? Do kids even play with toys anymore? Or is it all computer games now?

In light of the above post, we're still having problems identifying the following figures:

The first figures are small  - about 3". The second is about 6" - don't have the exact dimensions as I haven't got them to hand. I'd assume they are 80's figures.

@Chindie @GarethRDR @Ginko @wazzap24 - any idea chaps? Thinking maybe they'e cropped up in a comic over the years? Cheers.

Guns. Lots of guns. Preferably the old west type, and preferably as close as possible in appearance to the real Colts, Remingtons, Winchesters, etc.

I'm a child of the early 60s.  :)

Almost certainly, of dodgy looking tarts with pubes that looked like Brian Blessed's beard.

No but there was a Den in Highbury Park which had tons of them and whatever remained of our 10 Benson and Hedges pack.
