Appointed as first team coach today. Can anyone shed more light on him? Beside the sacking incident, I always remember Harry's teams conceding lots of goals but TBH I wasn't paying that much attention... Anyone?

Are you talking about the panorama allegations in 2006? So spurious that after a decent amount of research I still can't figure out what he was accused of.

I assume you are anti Big Sam also?

of course I am, would never want him managing this club

Kevin Bond yesterday dropped his libel claim against the BBC, six days before his case against the Panorama programme Undercover: Football's Dirty Secrets was due to be heard at the high court. David Price, Bond's solicitor, refused to comment when asked by this column why Bond had dropped the case. But Bond's decision not to pursue his attempt to clear his name will remain with him throughout his career.

A pre-trial judgment by the judge, Lord Justice Eady, which discusses the facts in the case states that while making his claim against the BBC, he accepted the programme "conveyed the impression that [he] was, on camera while being covertly recorded, expressing interest in prospectively receiving an impermissible payment (or 'bung')".

At the time of the undercover recording Bond was serving as Harry Redknapp's assistant manager at Portsmouth. When the programme was broadcast, he was Glenn Roeder's assistant manager at Newcastle United but was sacked shortly after the programme went out.

The Panorama programme showed footage of a conversation involving Bond and an undercover reporter: "I totally understand where you're coming from. I understand what you're looking for, and certainly myself and Harry would be open to listening to, you know, in order to come to some arrangement, if you like, where whatever we need, we'll make sure that we call you, and what you really want is that we call you and only you."

Bond is again Redknapp's assistant, now at Tottenham Hotspur. The BBC has not apologised, paid damages or any of his legal fees.

an innocent man would have went to court and challenged the allegations. shocking FA at time barely batted an eyelid

Yeh but can he coach? What was Roeder's Newcastle team like? I remember Harry's Portsmouth and Spurs teams playing nice attacking football but conceding loads, but I wonder how much of that was due to Harry and how much was due to Bond...

I bet many on here have done something 'illegal' in one form or another - no ones perfect and deserves a chance unless they are mass muderers and the like! He was maybe implicated but no charges were brought against him. Was he convicted or is this guilt by association in which case I'm guilty as f*** cos some of my partners family were associates of the Krays and a Buster  Edwards. If bond can be a good coach then what's the problem?

My concern with Bond is that he is a bit of a specialist in failure

I am personally not overwhelmed by Bond, although that said, I don't know an awful lot about him.

What I am pleased about is that the team were selected and in place before the manager was announced. This not only differs from recent appointments where the backroom staff have almost been an afterthought but also suggests that things have been in place for some time and that the team are RDM's first choice, not 2nd or 3rd choices as they have been for Garde, Sherwood and Lambert. Even Houlier wanted Phil Thompson as first choice.

Not sure how you arrive at that exactly...

Portsmouth - highest league position since the 40's and a FA Cup

Spurs - Champions League

I heard that in other jobs he tried 4-4-2, 4-3-3, even 4-5-1, and stuck at it, until he found the combination to the club's safe. :)

I should hope that the club's safe has a more secure code than three digits
