You'd think 40k/week would be enough for his retirement plan.

He's 30. The cruel fact is he is not going to improve and he isn't going to achieve any major success going forward.

I would find it very hard to turn down that kind of money regardless of what I was earning.

On the face of it it certainly is an odd move, but looking at Pelle's career this will be a salary like nothing he's seen before. One would imagine he'll be on around £40k per week at Southampton, perhaps his room to negotiate a better contract isn't great if they're planning to go with Austin, Rodriguez and Long next season?

Having just turned 30, his manager has just left and it's questionable whether he'd get another 3 or 4 years of top flight English football you can see why a player could be tempted by such a move financially.

So having succeeded in England and represented his country, he gets to more than double his pay, play at an easier level for the next 3 or 4 years and nets himself £15/20m in the process. Plus the endorsements for being a big fish in a hugely populated pond must be huge. It makes sense for the retirement plan. Just not from the sporting challenge side.

Well explained :thumb:

I Reckon we could well see the £1b barrier broken this transfer window!

Well you could be right...

Premier League clubs have spent an estimated £300m during the first week of the summer transfer window.

By comparison, £870m was spent during the nine weeks of last summer's window.

Business analyst Deloitte expects gross outlay to rise above £1bn before the window closes on 31 August.

His sale also follows the departures this summer of Victor Wanyama and Sadio Mane but the club have bought Nathan Redmond from Norwich City and had recruited Charlie Austin in January as a future Pelle replacement.

The plan, then, is not to seek a replacement for Pelle, with new manager Claude Puel believing he has enough striker options already at the club in Austin, Shane Long and Jay Rodriguez.

Southampton, however, are actively searching for a replacement in central midfield for Wanyama.

The club were under the impression that Pelle wanted to leave in January, hence the decision to do the deal for Austin, and there would now appear to be little appetite on either side for Pelle to extend his deal.

Pelle has scored twice for Italy during Euro 2016 and also scored 30 goals over his two years under Ronald Koeman at Southampton.

As well as the £13 million fee, Sandong Luneng are ready to offer Pelle wages in excess of £100,000-a-week.

Expect Liverpool to make a counter offer over the next few days!

also he was hardly playing at end of last season as Long was ahead of him so doubt he would have got a similar contract elsewhere. Dont know who Italy manager will be but I also doubt Pelle will be used again for national team

It's Ventura, the Torino guy. So you might be right as chances are he might prefer players he's worked with, like Immobile, or even Belotti over him.

Cisse leaving Newcastle for China

Apart from the blistering start he had, he always flattered to deceive.

Bradford City meet Blackpool 'keeper Colin Doyle's £1 release clause

  • Bradford City have activated a £1 release clause in Blackpool goalkeeper Colin Doyle’s contract, according to Sky sources.
  • The 6ft 5in 'keeper, capped once by the Republic of Ireland, will follow goalkeeping coach Steve Banks to Valley Parade.

Despite Blackpool's relegation to League Two last season, Doyle enjoyed an impressive campaign and the Bantams are keen to bring him back to League One next season.

The 31-year-old spent 12 years with Birmingham City but made just 64 appearances, spending most of the period on various loan stints.

A 2015 switch to Bloomfield Road, however, reignited his career and he made 35 appearances for Blackpool across the 2015-16 League One campaign.

Bradford narrowly missed out on promotion to the Championship last season when they lost 4-2 on aggregate to Millwall in the League One play-off semi-finals.

Manager Stuart McCall is keen to strengthen his squad to ensure they can go one step further this season and has already signed defender Nathaniel Knight-Percival on a free transfer from Shrewsbury and midfielder Nicky Law on a free transfer following his release by Rangers.

Just imagine having a domestic league heavily dependent on ageing overseas stars past their best, who only come for huge wages, to be the star attractions. Pretty desperate isn't it.

Anyway looking forward to watching 34 year old Imbrahimovic for United this season, I think he will be worth every penny of his £200k a week salary....

Yeah, He will probably be doing that in shirt sales.

Apparently Pogba's agent is in line for 25% of any transfer fee. Seeing as it's the same agent as Mourinho that has to be a conflict of interest.

http://www.thetimes.co.uk/edition/sport/agents-amazing-cut-of-110m-pogba-transfer-2rg3wbfdx

Manchester United are being asked to pay a record transfer fee of about £110m to sign Paul Pogba. If United accept the terms it is understood that almost a quarter of the fee will end up in the hands of the agent who persuaded the young Frenchman to leave Old Trafford under the terms of freedom of contract in the summer of 2012.

Way over the odds for a player who is good but not great. He has not been exceptional in the euros. Standout French players have been Griezmann and Payet,

Yes 38 league goals  in 31 games Ibrahimovic scored last season. He's going to score a stack of goals in the Premier League.

Won't get anywhere near that in this league. He'll be doing well to score half of that tally.
