rodders0223
We NEED to win our next two home games. Put them away early and put them away well. We need some **** momentum. We can't just keep going on like this.
It's Your Round
It's not looking good, especially the way keep falling apart as soon as teams put pressure on us. But it's a league where anyone can beat anyone, on any given day. F@&)ing Blues beat Norwich today, nobody expected that. It is a long season and we've got a lot of new players in. It will take time to get it right and we haven't finished in the transfer market. Its blindingly obvious that we need to take our chances. Strikers that score goals with confidence are what we need now. I'm pissed off with today's result and the manner in which we lost. But, the season's not over yet. Things can change.
Reivax_Villa
Many of us fans are guilty of underestimating this league. This league is brutal, what these teams lack in talent and quality is what they make up with hard work, togetherness and determination. Every game this season is going to be tough, we need to accept that. We have a new team of players and were still recruiting, it's going to take a few months for this team to gel. VillaChris
Thing is we've actually played pretty well in stages and indeed half of games so far.... You'd have thought even that would've been enough to win a couple more games, this isn't the premier league we're talking about. We really need a big September now. We'll win games...but to be promoted you need to go on runs of 3/4 wins consecutively a couple of times a season...we look miles away from that even with all the new signings. sne
1 point above relegation after 5 games. Top of the league in yellow cards (I assume). Wafer thin squad that will be hit with suspensions in the coming weeks. Can't keep it together over the course of more than 45 minutes. Not looking great is it? Still 41 games to play, but still so much work to be done. Midfield is still a joke.

It's not really the league though - it's us. If we had a strong mentality instead of the pathetically weak one we have now we'd be absolutely fine.

Demitri_C
I seriously do not understand this weak mentality excuse, barring Westwood, ayew, bacuna and grealish this is a whole team, manager and owner. I'm tired of excuses they owe us a top performance against forest
Richard
I have not changed my opinion on promotion. It is unlikely . What I do feel is if the team gels a bit better we will be comfortably mid table

It's not in any way acceptable, I just think it's becoming clearer that this is what the main problem is. 6 minutes ago, Reivax_Villa said: Who would you consider in that team today that was mentally weak ?? No one really but this is the problem - we have a culture of weakness and mentality running through the club that goes beyond individual players and managers. In the last few years Villa have become associated with weakness and decline to such an extent that subconsciously I think that infects even the new arrivals. Villa throwing leads away and being mentally weak is just accepted and it's very hard to snap out of that. Of course players do not time to gel as well though. Farlz
While today was very disappointing, there's many, many games to go. We're still looking for players to bring in as well. Like I said in the RDM thread, if by Christmas time we don't look like getting promoted at all, I'll then get concerned. Until then I still believe we do have enough. Popular Post terrytini
I assume there is no fan on here who thinks we ought to win every game. So we all accept we will lose games. But, we cry, "this isn't 1 game, its been awful for years " In other words once the accepted idea of the 1st sentence is placed in our current context a defeat assumes distressing and bafflingly mystical proportions. "Its a new team, how can we STILL be fragile " ? "Only one 1 in 5 yet its all new stuff, how come ?" "need to lift the curse" "Manager needs to improve" "Why do we fold second half ?" IMO it is more a question of the following ; -some peoples unrealistically high expectations not being met that is the cause of the distress. - the illogical - but understandable - conflation of the present and past Team/perfomance with the current one, - finally a third element, the fact that the players - however new - are subject to the mental pressures brought about by the first two. Taking the first one - (briefly, as I posted all the stats the other day) - the turn around required is right up there with the biggest by any Club. To translate a record breakingly bad side into a Top 6 contender. After I posted there were some saying that not to reach the Play-Offs would be a failure. IMO they underestimate the size of the challenge, and results like this prove it. If they underestimate the challenge, they will be overly upset when the challenge is not met. Then the second - I have seen quite a few people say, in the same breath, that we "have only 1 win from 5" and "its different players but the same crap" But that simply isn't true is it ? The 1 Win from 5 hasn't been with a new Team. Even today, we didn't field all the signings. And todays side isn't the one that lost 1 of those 5, at Luton. Nor is it the one that lost at Sheffield. And it certainly isn't the one that "hasn't won away for X months" This new side is entitled to lose - we have to expect them to lose - and it would be less 'inexplicable' if we saw it as that. This side, todays side, this is their first bad defeat. And as I said right at the top, bad defeats will happen, we all agree that. So for me there is no mystery, no curse, no need to look at the Manager leaving, no reason to panic. (We still clearly need 3/4 players but we all knew that) We need to accept that the past seasons results and performances, and the players and Managers responsible for them, are gone, and hence nothing to do with what happens now (other than in terms of giving us a low base to start from and maybe adding to pressure in the mind of players who are aware of those results). We need to accept a winning side from where we were is not going to happen quickly, that our current side has barely even started, and that however good it is it will be a struggle to Win (and score) as often as we need to in order to get top half, (especially from the low base we started from, but anyway.) And we need to give the Manager another 12/15 games before we judge whether he is progressing that task. In those games we will perform well, win, lose, perform badly, and so on. It will be the overall position that will matter.

They may they may not, but I would say it is too early to expect the new signings to have dramatically affected results yet. How long has Tish played so far for example ?
