Battlefield 1

I've specialised in support until today when trying to attempt scout.  sometimes i do well, most of the time I'm trying to get too close to the action and get myself killed.

Had first use of medic today too and think their guns are far superior to support.

Think support will receive a little buff soon.

That seems to be the general consensus alright. I've only played medic and support so far. The support class seems to be missing something. giving assault the anti tank weapons wasn't a good idea.

rush was all I played on bf4, I didn't see any servers over 20 people on rush bf1, is that still the case?

Yea, they reduced the numbers on Rush from 32 to 24.  It'll still "feel" the same, because the spawns are quicker but it's due to map design.

Operations is the new 40/64 player Rush, if you need big war.

Love playing this with friends, very frustrating when not.  Medic class weapons pee all over support, of that I'm now absolutely certain.

Support weapons will receive a small buff (probably reduce the amount of random deviation) and it's mortar will receive a small nerf (maybe).  Currently it's extremely accurate, has good distance.  Use it in the right place and you can spam it as it reloads very quickly, about 16 seconds I believe.  The 2 grenades might go too.  Although I don't think either needs nerfing, I can just see it happening, as is the DICE way :)

Actually got round to a quick blast of multiplayer last night (not had much time so just played the single player since the ea access trial week), first random battlepack at the end of the round & i get the legendary golden kolibri :) . the firing/reload animation is rather amusing on something this small.

(image/gif are from elsewhere but lets you see the gun)

I've not really used medic, I like semi auto rifles though, used them a lot in bf4 with infer red scopes. I did give support another go last night but found myself going back to scout after 20 mins or so. I'm going to use medic tonight.

There's a couple of medic weapons which can go full auto, the Sweeper LW being one.  Before you buy a gun, look at the stats on the right, you'll see 1 bullet, 2 bullets and 3 bullets, they represent modes of fire, single, burst (2 bullets) & full auto (3 bullets).

After having first started using medic last night, I bought the sweeper and it's brilliant.  Not bad at anything, but you'll get blitzed by trench guns/automatica's at close range (to be expected).  Not accurate over 50 or so meters either, unless you slowly burst it.  But what it lacks in accuracy over range it more than makes up for power.

I have been thinking of buying this game, but I am just wondering whether it stands up on its own as a 1 player game, or whether it is all about the online action against other players.Someone told me that in previous BF games, the one player game does not offer much play time (I amused to Witcher 3/Fallout games which offered many hours of play time).  As an older gamer I have steered clear of going online in this type of game as generally sepaking I am not that good at gaming as I used to be, and fear getting my ass whooped by some 10 year old. Haha.

The single player campaign is probably the highest rated SP campaign a battlefield game has produced since I've started playing them (BC2). However, I have read it's short, like... 5/6 hours short. The multiplayer is fantastic though.

i played one level and it was very short and lacked the madness that the MP offers, it wasnt particularly hard but more disappointingly seeing as they can get a lot of people playing online at the same time there wasnt many AI characters on the map, it felt like a decent set up and interesting story though

what is probably the most interesting thing about it is what i think will be its downfall, they've split it in to 5 (?) story arcs in different theatres, i started in gallipoli, it has 5 levels i think, i only did the first one, you can pick whichever theatre takes your fancy, so italy, france, germany etc what i dont get is how the game will throw in a learning curve to that, if i complete the 5 gallipoli levels then id assume they will get gradually harder, i then drop on to the french levels, does it start on easy and get harder again? im not sure how well it will work

as for online, im loving it, it often cant shake the problem that people would rather run round killing people rather than doing the objectives despite it being a very objective focused game, i like that you get points for hits rather than just kills and to put it in to context you get 100 points for a kill (+ various bonuses) but you'll get 500+ points for the objectives, think on one game last night i captured 11 objectives, its worth around 8k points straight off so 80 kills, my k/d ratio is surprisingly high, its actually positive...i do spam gas grenades though

operations is a brilliant game mode, i think that makes up for the SP

The bf games have always been about multiplayer. Go online mate if you want to experience the full force of this game

Thanks for the feedback everybody. I will have a think about it, as the game does look good. I guess I will need to venture online at some point with some game or other, so had better get used to getting my butt kicked by some pesky kid. :D

Hi, I personally wouldn't buy it for it's SP campaign.  It's good, for what it's worth, but I completed it on Hard in little over 5 hours, and a large portion of that was on a chapter called "Through mud and blood" - the story of a tanker squad.

If you're used to large single player games then you'll be mightily disappointed.

The games chapters are essentially gearing you up to go online.  You tank in one chapter, you use the sentry in another, you fly bi planes in another, you learn how to spot in another and finally close combat in another.

It's very well bound together, and the graphics and game play are superb (AI is a bit gung ho!), but if you're expecting something like the original medal of honor or COD4, then you'll be gutted.

I still maintain that there is little as fun as playing with a squad of friends (5) and working together to get things done (online obviously).

Battlefield's never really been about the story mode though, it's something they throw in to appease people.

It's a multiplayer game, that's where it comes into its own.

I love it so far, it feels a lot more realistic (not that I've ever been in a war zone), for example when someone's prone it's genuinely hard to see them (it's pretty tough to see people anyway as they're not lit up with a huge neon marker like they used to be), I love that you can lay down in a pretty small bomb crater and yet still be covered well enough from enemy fire.

I love the confusion element too, I must have spent at least a minute in an upstairs room of one of the buildings last night firing out the window alongside what I thought was a team mate, turns out it was an enemy, who killed me, but it took him a minute at least to realise (and me even longer)!

You are thinking about it wrong to be honest with you. Its not run and gun team death match. Killing the enemy is only one part of a much bigger objective, everyone has a job to do be it medic, support, assault or scout. You earn most points from working together, helping your team and taking objectives. The fact that some 16year old can react slightly quicker than you is irrelevant. Stay in cover and work towards that objective bit by bit, moving up with your squad around you.

OK, so there is a little more to it than I first thought. it does sound interesting and I guess I have got to brave it otherwise I will miss out. I reckon I can probably convince my brother to buy it first and have a go at playing it around his house, and that way I will have someone to go online with as well when I do get around to buying it.

Ok thanks lapal_fan, I did like the single player games but do want to try something different. I did like Medal of Honour, and that was the game that I was thinking of when I saw this game and it's setting. I will probably take a while longer to complete the SP though as I will probably not be as good as you guys, but that will hopefully make me better and more equipped to take on the online version.
