No. I really don't want Pearson to manage us.

I hold the exact opposite view- I'm delighted that Moyes has chosen not to join us. I am struggling to see what he offers over and above Nigel Pearson. For me and many Evertonians I see a very dour manager whose teams tend to replicate him as a person. At least Pearson's teams by and large have a right good go at winning football matches- sorry for repeating myself but even when losing games last season they were in there fighting and playing some pretty decent stuff. Let's just get it done please'

Hughton is a highly respected and well regarded manager in football with an impressive record at a number of clubs. I don't really see where the colour of his skin comes into it; he's recognised on merit. 

I'm sure many of us would have been more than happy to have had him at the Villa but he's got a good position at Brighton where he's clearly valued.

Why isn't Chris Houghton ever mentioned? He got Newcastle Promoted, he got Brighton to third which is way better than expected. I just don't understand? Give black mangers a chance, and we are club with a proud history of brining through black players in the early ages.

Before we pull the racist card out, remember there are only something like 6 black managers in the football league. This isn't a Villa problem, it's a sport-wide problem.

That being said, Chris Houghton has been mentioned several times, particularly how unlikely it is because of his current position and not for any other reason.

Dwight Yorke also got a mention a few pages back. Probably relating to how much of a car crash it would probably be.

What  has his colour got to do with anything?? Hughton has signed a new contract shall we go and try for Paul Ince or John Barnes? The only factor that should be considered is are they good enough for us and if you'd have read these boards Hughton has been mentioned loads and I'd say the press don't tout his name as he's signed a new contract apparently!! I don't want him because I think he's too nice and we have to many snakes at our club who need clearing out.

He has just signed a lengthy new contract with Brighton. All the managers we are being linked with are currently out of work.

12 mentions from for Houghton in the thread including the responses to my post.....so about 5 if that. Would have expected more. Disappointing, he'd have fit the job like a glove on a hand.

He was more direct, however, on the subject of Villa’s head of recruitment, Paddy Riley, and his scouting team, who have been widely blamed for a dismal season which saw only three games won by the ­Premier League’s bottom club.

“I think a lot of Villa fans will agree that one thing we have to make much stronger is the scouting team,” he said.

“I think, more or less, the scouting team they had before, they have to take a lot of responsibility.” Asked whether the Villa Park scouts would be dismissed, he replied that there would be “new ones”. Xia also said that he had no plans to rename Villa Park, and strongly denied reports that he was to name it after one of his companies.

He also spoke about how Di Matteo had emerged as the strongest candidate for the managerial position after David Moyes withdrew from the race on Monday.

Former Leicester manager Nigel Pearson and Di Matteo were both being considered because they had experience gaining promotion from the Championship, Xia said.

Di Matteo had emerged as the ­favourite as he had more experience in the Premier League. More importantly, the Champions League-winning manager could also help the Chinese businessman achieve his dream of raising Villa’s international profile.

   “That is maybe the reason that a lot of people say that I am favouring Di Matteo,” he said.

Xia, who was speaking at the head office of his Recon Group business empire in Beijing, said he was also looking forward to taking formal control at Villa.

He said there was “no reason” that he would fail a 'directors’ test’ currently being undertaken by the Premier League and the Football League. “I think there is no way, and not any excuse, that they should turn me down because I am a person who is doing everything legally,” he said.

“I am enthusiastic for the club and I will devote myself to it and I am responsible to take it over. There is no reason they will disapprove of that.”

Xia’s background had come ­under scrutiny after he was named as the prospective owner for Villa, particularly over allegations that he had fabricated his academic record.

But the Harvard graduate said it was “insane” that such accusations were made.

 

He said the episode, which blew up in the Chinese media several years ago, had caused him to maintain his privacy – and was one of the reasons why his wealth is not as ­visible as many of China’s business elite.

Xia occasionally revealed a shy, edgy side as he repeatedly refused to put a figure on how much he is worth, saying the only thing that was important was that he is wealthy enough to be a “responsible” owner for Villa.

He had also attracted attention in the media over his political connections, which he said he developed by advising scores of city mayors across China on planning projects.

“I do have a very good personal connections with all the government officials,” he said.

“But one thing for me, I never get too close with the politics or politicians. I get all my business just by very healthy and legal ways.”

McCarthy seems to be wanting to get away quick for someone who's play acting

My choices of the three would be:

1. Moyes (unlikely now)

2. DiMatteo (more likely now)

3. Inanimate Carbon Rod

4. Pearson.

So I'd be fairly happy with RDM, he should be fine for a couple of seasons you would think, for promotion and to stabilise in the PL, until we want to push to the next level.

From this interview, Xia clearly expressed that he is not happy with the current scouting team at Villa.

I am curious to know, if this is his personal observation (which requires him following the club for quite a long time to know this), or him knowing this from somewhere else (his team, or even from current owners?)

So if the telegraph is right it's  RDM.  Personally I think it's a big risk as he has no experience building a team and we need a compete overhaul.  Would feel a lot happier with Pearson.

I do worry that RDM will do a Sherwood. We'll spend shitloads of Dr x's cash but will end up with lots of players but no team. We really have to get the underlying structure right this time and build from a solid spine with players to fit a system.  he's not done that before.
