Agreed.  He would want to prove a lot of his doubters wrong too.  Also think that he could really look at the club from top to bottom and bring that right culture back.  Hope it happens this week and things would be looking really bright again.

Basically Moyes has a terrific pressure on him if he comes to Villa - he simply cannot allow himself to fail. Which is good.

What's more, the Chinese know him due to his time at Manchester United (they are the most supported club in China). As i've said earlier, Two good seasons with us would swing them over to us quicker than a bee with a huge flower in front of it.

Moyes must be convinced that Xia is the real deal if he's considering taking over a team that has been relegated.

And a terrific opportunity for him to recreate what he had at Everton; maybe even going a little further with Doc behind him.  Really think we are a perfect fit.

Almost two months ago when Remi Garde left Aston Villa - yes, it has been that long - we checked out David Moyes' credentials with an Everton expert.

Now, with Moyes re-joining the race as a prominent candidate to replace Garde, that piece with Liverpool Echo writer David Prentice is worth re-visiting.

At the time of writing the 53-year-old is the new bookies favourite after the Scot met with new owner Tony Xia's representatives last week.

David Prentice covered Everton during Moyes' time at Goodison Park.

Here he explains why he would be a good choice for Villa if he edges out competition from Nigel Pearson and Roberto Di Matteo.

Would Villa be a good club for him?

“I think it would be the perfect club and he could re-invent himself there. David was outstanding at Everton but he needed a bit of time. When he was appointed they were flirting with relegation.

"It wasn’t serious but it was a bit too close for comfort. That season he did a job keeping them up and that took them to seventh in his second season which was brilliant.

"After that there was a rollercoaster period and then he was excellent after that. European Football was a regular thing and it was a big improvement on the dreadful nineties. He stabilised the club completely and from the outside looking in you’d think he could do the same at Villa."

Could he rip up an entire squad and start from scratch?

“He had to do that at Everton, so yes. When he first arrived in 2002 he was confronted by the likes of Ginola, Gascoigne, Ferguson and Campbell - all players who were past their best.

"He insisted on doing what he did at Preston by taking the warm-ups, coaching them personally on the training pitch and trying to put his imprint on the squad.

"He didn’t buy that many players in his second season and managed to get the team to seventh. He’s a good man-motivator and he has the experience of changing things that haven’t been going right."

How do his teams like to play?

"David found a way at Everton of comfortably seeing off the teams who Everton were expected to beat but he struggled against the big-boys.

"He was often labelled over-cautious because he was always use the ‘underdog’ tag when Everton lost. Merseyside derbies highlighted this more so than ever.

"He didn’t go for it enough and his side would often struggle because of that. That said they were always superbly organised under his leadership. Everton need a bit more of that today."

What type of players would he look to recruit?

Everton manager David Moyes David Moyes

"Talent is not enough for Moyes. He is so detailed and thorough when tracking targets that he was once named ‘Dithering David’.

"He wants to know absolutely everything about a target’s personality and character as well as their capabilities on the pitch. There was a room at Finch Farm (Everton’s training ground) which had all sorts of files and detailed findings on players.

"He will only get in players who have been checked out extensively prior to signing."

What are his weaknesses?

David Moyes during his time in charge of Everton David Moyes during his time in charge of Everton

“There aren’t any major weak points but he did used to be criticised for taking a knife into a gun fight.

"He always played the ‘underdogs’ card when things went wrong against the big-boys and he complained a lot of the time about not having the funds. I suppose it’s understandable given that he got the club so close to the top-four on a number of occasions.

"He was just overly-cautious. Had he been backed a bit more we might have seen a different side to him. But he’s a good guy and great to get on with even though some people often label him as miserable.

"One thing I found with him is that he wouldn’t lie to you. If he couldn’t answer a question, he would say. I admire his honesty."

Moyes is a good manager and probably the best that we can get at the moment, but I would really love to have a manager that was a bit more attacking, if we want to become the most supported team in China, then we really really need to be an entertaining side. But that being said, I wont complain about getting Moyes, but he would not be my personal first pick.

Moyes, Moyes, Moyes – we're looking for a good time :D

No with Moyes I'm afraid it will be a very dour time- even the Everton fans were saying the same thing when Utd came knocking and we're thrilled at the prospect of Martinez taking over.  Yes he will take us up no doubt about this, as would any half decent manager, given our new found resources, but after this, I fear some pretty long afternoons at VP. Still very much Pearson for me please!

Worked out well with Martinez though didn't it?

Moyes doesn't excite me that much but out of all the candidates he has the best CV and experience.

Would you want him if Leicester had come 15th this season? Never has someone's stock risen so much when doing absolutely nothing.

His coaches are all at Leicester and won't be joining us, he's got a bad attitude dealing with fans, and he's an ostrich.

I very much don't want Pearson.

To be honest the entertainment factor has been zero for 4 almost 5 years now. Losing all the time isn't fun or entertaining. I would imagine it would be much better under Moyes next season over anything we have witnessed this season. Our home form has been terrible, Moyes needs to make us more solid it's what he does. We need that type of manager especially if promotion is the aim. We need to finally sort out the home form, atleast have a platform in place. I'm excited and I hope it is Moyes.

The style of football won't be bad considering what Villa fans have had to watch the past 5 years. Everton generally played progressive football but when they had Cahill and Fellaini in the box they used them. Attacking full backs became more prevalent when Baines and Coleman emerged too. He made full use of technically gifted players like Arteta, Pienaar, Osman and even Graveson played some great stuff back in the day earning a move to Real Madrid.

At United Cleverley's sideways passing was his downfall.

To be fair- my post was never intended to be an endorsement of Martinez's ability as a football manager- much more about the brand of football that Moyes puts on. IMO

But that shouldn't be a reason to allow more of the same surely- personally I just see Pearson as a more attractive proposition and would prefer to watch his teams than David Moyes.

Would be ironic if we got Moyes now. I seem to recall us being interested in him back in 2010 after we'd just finished 6th but by all accounts couldn't tempt him.

I'd take steady football and results under someone like Moyes than a risk with a prick like Pearson.
