It annoys me so much they are still pushing the EU as the bad guys. The red tape has always been there for non members, we decided we wanted to be a non member and take our chances with the red tape we were told very clearly existed. But it’s the EU’s fault still in these rags.

They won because they had better slogans and more willingness to just say anything to win their arguments with no requirement to prove anything.
Nicho
For what it’s worth slogan wise it’s a much easier sell to the working class who want more for themselves than working until 66-70. Ignoring any immigrants/EU hate mongering. Things will change for the better is a much easier sell than they will stay the same. Obviously doesn’t take into account that things are how they are(we’re) because of the people saying it will be better. meregreen
Two new memorials opened today to mark the 77 years since D Day. One in the National Arboretum in Staffordshire, the other in Ver Sur Mer Normandy. Have to say, the memorial in Normandy looks stunning. So sad that we have as a nation, turned our back on Europe this year. Events such as today, highlight the peace that was bought at such a terrible cost The EU has helped ensure that peace amongst Europes major nations. It’s not all about economics.

Genie
Brexit isn’t quite as done as it was made out to be then. Can’t even **** sell stuff from one UK nation to another. We’ve got so much control now.

Genie
Why isn’t anybody with an ounce of credibility getting the ball rolling on Bre-join? It will take many years, but at least start the process of drawing a line under this horrific chapter.

Or at least it’s what they wanted as of December 2019.

Though right now there maybe some converts due to the vaccine rollout (despite the fact that we could have done that the same anyway, it won't be sold like that by Brexiteers) The main problem is we won't be allowed back in with our old special arrangements such as keeping the pound. It will be rejoin on our terms.

And those we are seeing can be handwaved away with "but Covid". It'll take a few years of seeing the chickens come home to roost before it becomes possible to suggest even closer alignment, never mind rejoining without effectively committing political suicide. And as @sidcow suggests, we'd join in a far worse position than that from which we left. I voted remain. I don't think I'd vote to rejoin an ever closer union whatever that may look like after several years of us not vetoing things, lose our vetos, rebates and adopt the euro. Obviously that's right now though, who knows how **** things will look in a few years. It might be a tempting offer In other news, Boris is confident that resolving the NI trade issues is "easily doable", so that's that **** good and proper.

I do wonder if a few years down the line the UK was warming the EU up to potentially rejoin they categorically say we had to adopt the Euro, or we’d be able to show it worked ok before? Of course the EU doesn’t need the UK more than the UK needs the EU, but I’m sure the EU would like to have the UK in the club for many reasons. After we’re all covered in a spattering of fan flung shit the proposal of selling the EU is an easier sell than leave/remain was. Imagine selling freedom to travel unlimited, retiring in the sun, studying and working abroad, new cheaper suppliers and customers, no paperwork or admin etc etc. I think it would be a landslide. chrisp65
We need to move on from discussing rejoining. The UK has left. Let’s work out how to make the best of that.
