What an amazing surprise. We sign a new striker ready to take up the mantle in the next game and Davis is immediately fit and ready for selection again.

He really is cursed.

To be fair will be good for him to get time off the bench.

Personally, I would consider playing Davis and samatta with grealish behind them.  (Or like a front 3 - a narrow front 3)

I kind of wonder if a big battering ram like Davis (who can also play), with a ferret like samatta alongside him , and grealish behind them, might be a real nasty front 3.

Like a 3412 or 343 with a narrow front 3.

Discussed in formation thread. Smith will never play this and Davis is so far off the step up I can't believe anyone would want this.

This is basically 352 which is horrible and no one has done since Keegan at Man City from memory. Our 343 is working well, 433 can work with right players back. Why are people obsessed with 2 up front when so many successful teams in recent times operate the 3 man AML ST AMR

Or Smith vs Man City. Everything comes round again...even big man little man.

I guess it's all about having the right players. I could see it working for us with 2 up top and Jack floating in behind. Especially if we can get our wing-backs high up the pitch delivering good balls into the box. Although we've played 4-3-3 for most of the season I don't think we've ever had the personnel to do it effectively.

A player with not a great amount of pace and is generally a hold up specialist to play wide forward? Don't think so.

I would imagne He’s faster than Mandzukic though , our forwards interchange, Tammy played wide at times last season, Davis is not slow  and like I said from time to time not all the time

I feel like I'm gonna end up arguing for him to start over Samatta in the next few weeks if Samatta doesn't kick on. Everytime he comes on I feel like he's a significant improvement on the guy he just replaced. Pity he keeps getting injured.

It's not fair to compare him to Samatta today since it was Samatta's first time with the team and in an entire new league, but we were better with Davis out there today. He should have had an assist but Trez didn't finish (made up for it later!), and did a good job winning the ball.
