Can't be offside from a goal kick.

edited - didnt know this. Waznt the case when i was playing 15 years ago...

It's been the case for at least 10 years, I'd be interested to know when it was introduced.

Perhaps it was not enforced properly? I played as a trainee in 1996 (was a goalie) and i can recall many times having players pulled up for offside from goalkicks.

Im also pretty sure i remember one being given at villa park against middlesbrough in the early naughties

But then its not something new that refs dont know the rules either!

A few years back when Ronaldo scored from a run from the halfway line, I went so ballistic that my Girlfriend (at the time) walked out and didnt speak or contact me for 3 days.

I broke my mother's coffee table when we conceded that 4th goal vs Spurs in that 4-4 draw at White Hart Lane a few years back
