Transfer Speculation Summer 2016

We might have dropped a league but I don't think the idea of Aston Villa signing a left back from Preston to be back up, competition and at times rotate with Amavi who is coming back from serious injury is outside the realms of normal. I'm usually preaching the 'reality of the situation' too.

Seems sensible.

No Championship club, even with shiny new owners can afford to carry too big a squad. Our's is about 30 now, not counting youth players like Green or Toner.

Trim the squad (use a scythe for all I care) and get some new players in. The big thing is that we can't again have 5-10 players in the squad who doesn't contribute (in a positive way) if we are to have any hope of going back up next season.

If they were that ambitious and financially powerful, they'd just pay up the contracts, which the article goes on to say that in some cases they might be willing to do. Same article suggests that we want a dead ball specialist, would someone like Charlie Adam fit the bill and be realistic for a championship club.

Paying up a contract is still a hit when it comes to FFP, though.

They'd be stupid to not try and at least get some offers for those we no longer want.  If we have no takers in say a month, then by all means open discussions about paying up the contracts..

He's now said that he didn't mean it, in the way that it's being interterperpred. I.e that there's no more money until we sell players.

Same old villa we have spent 12million if that and I can guarantee some will be instalments it looks to me like we arnt serious to get promoted. Owner in not spending down the villa shouldn't come as a surprise, as good as the centre back from Bournemouth is the other two are a gamble seems to be going down the same route as last summers signings

Gregg could have worded that one better.

The better way to put it is we ideally need to lighten the load to stay within FFP.

Yes our wages are down thanks to being relegated and lovely relegation clauses, but as a club we will be making less money in this league so having a 30+ man squad all on £30-£40k is the right way to get sanctioned eventually.

So yes we have money, but we have to be smart about it.

I can't remember where they were mentioned in this thread, but two "rumoured" players have moved elsewhere:

Callum O'Dowda from Oxford United to Bristol City

Tom Bradshaw looks like moving from Walsall to Barnsley

It's a marathon, not a sprint-Lets get to the end of August before we start jumping to conclusions.

Firstly, Gregg Evans has said it was worded badly and didn't mean to give the impression that there was no more money to spend until players had been sold. He meant that from a squad size perspective, more players need to leave.

Secondly, promotion is the ultimate goal for the owner as this is what makes him see the biggest returns on his investment. Build a promotion winning team and the club is immediately £150m richer, so you can be sure he's serious about getting promoted.

Thirdly, most transfers are paid in installments, from Macclesfield through to Man United. £12million spent with having just one pre-season match been played in the Championship is pretty decent moolah too btw. We're not in the Premier League anymore, in case you haven't noticed. I could be wrong but doesn't that already make us the second highest spenders in our division so far?

Can't comment on Gollini or Tshibola but they come highly rated, how have you turned this into a negative?

I just mentioned on Twitter that I wouldn't mind trying to nab Rhodes off Boro. They seem to have bigger fish to fry with the likes of Negredo coming in.

From the players perspective he's unlikely to want to drop down after only just getting his first opportunity in the Prem.

That was me with the O'Dowda mention. Though we did only enquire and asked to kept informed-this was pre Dr X and Di Matteo mind.  And as I said I'm not high enough up the food chain to know the exact ins and outs of these type of things. I reckon Bristol city have got a great deal there.
