I could anchor and break up play.

Sanchez, Westwood and Veretout aren't good enough. They've shown it time and time again.
Time to get rid and move on.

Could you? Maybe you should contact Cheslea and ask to replace Mikel....

I've lost ya.

You said you could anchor and break up play as if it's a really simple thing to do in football. It's obviously not. It's a specialist trait. Sanchez can do it, which is why I would keep him.

The problem is when Sanchez is asked to do anything else which he's not great at.

If you hope for him to be some kind of dynamic box to box midfielder then you will be disappointed, managers shouldn't be getting him to do anything else other than anchor. It then gives other players more freedom.

Both Veretout and Westwood are easily good enough for the Championship. If Veretout lives up to his potential he'd be one of the best midfielders in that division.

I disagree but respect your opinion.

I'm good like that.

The last I heard Veretout wanted to leave. But if we do keep him, in a more positive environment and with him being more set in a new country, then I think he'll improve greatly. It's unfair to judge him after one season, especially given all the circumstances.

I wonder if we should believe the reports that 'RDM has called all of the squad, and all the players he wants to keep are happy to stay'.

If a couple said no, would he then relay that to the press? I don't think so.

Also, as others have said, a player might say he's happy to stay, but will secretly be getting his agent to contact clubs about a move.

Whatever we're to take from those reports, I think there will definitely be some players who previously wanted to leave, but are now more willing to stay since the takeover and RDM/Clarke duo came in.

There's definitely a buzz around Villa right now, and I'm hoping that RDM uses that optimism to convince some players (Adama/ Amavi/ Ayew etc) to stay and also for a few exciting players to join us.

Westwood may be okay, Veretout is one of the most unfit, lazy midfielders I have ever seen. He may hit 4/5 nice passes in a match but then is a total passenger the rest of the time. I have never seen anybody so inept at tracking runners as Veretout which is saying something as all are midfielders are pretty bad at that. Veretout really takes the piss though on that front.

with the proposed elphick signing it looks like we have been after players and just been waiting for the takeover to be ratified.i don't think elphick would be the only player we'd approach.we could be in for an exciting few weeks.

So we have a squad of two then so far

There were reports yesterday that we were already on advanced talks with a striker and a creative midfielder. If so, including Elphick, that 3 vital positions that we've already starting making moves on.

Goalkeeper! That has to be a priority surely.

Would agree with this, as any successful team builds from the back and makes a solid spine.  Marshall at Cardiff would be a decent shout or there are one or two young gems in the lower leagues that have been mentioned on here.

I wonder if the creative midfielder rumours have anything to do with the Ravel Morrison rumours on Twitter?

I think the one good thing about the goalkeeping position, is that they pretty much have one job.  (Obviously I know it is more complex), but I feel it is easier for them to integrate with a team as they don't necessarily have to integrate and get drilled into system etc. Getting all players in as early as possible is the best option of course but I feel this is a position which will suffer less.

Being linked with a striker called Naranjo by the Cadenaser website.

Might be the vitamin injection our attack needs!

According to Wiki he's an 83 year old Chilean author. I just don't think that's what we need right now.
