If he can find some confidence for this team, we'll do okay. To support you point, If you've watched every Villa game this season (which i believe you have OBE), then you can clearly see that there are slight improvements all around the pitch since Garde came in. He is obviously trying to change the entire way this shot-to-pieces team plays, and they are getting there. We are generating much more chances than we have in the past, despite defenders switching off we have been much tighter, we are moving the ball around, and we are pushing forward with the likes of Ayew coming out of his shell now. In my opinion, the failure still stands with the players, losing out on 50/50 balls, not getting anyone in the box, pinging balls to no-one, there is literally NOTHING Garde can do about this as he is already trying to change the entire mindset and lift confidence as is. We are making progress, it's slow progress, and it likely won't be enough to save us, but Garde is effectively trying to bring the remedial class up the the level of the rest of the school. I truly believe that all these people who are saying he's crap, he needs to go, Pearson would do better, Adama should play 90 mins etc do not watch the games properly, or are blind to the fact that Remi is making positive changes with a god awful Villa team. You throw Adama, Gil, Grealish on and you open up massive portions of the pitch, we go down 2-1, heads drop and we are back to square 1. Remi knows this, and he knows that he needs to get a the team playing at a premier league standard before he can risk 'going for it' else all his hard work will be undone. I agree that it is frustrating, and I do think that we should go for it, but I also see Remi's thought process that the season is marginally savable over the next 5/6 games, not just this one. villianusa
Just watched the game, and I am wondering about their goal. Wasn't one of their players standing in front of Guzan blocking his view in an off-side position? Or do the new offside rules allow that?
Sam3773
Just read a stat that this is the first time in over 2 years Villa have come from behind for a point. Can anyone confirm that?
The_Rev
Ayew was fantastic second half, the rest of the team were pretty meh. Still think Vertout is crippled by a lack of pace, still think the side are going to finish 20th.

Popular Post kevpants
I am done with you lot. Rooted to the bottom of the table and we come away with a point away from home after a really good performance. Apparently this is "pathetic". Apparently Garde was supposed to switch our form from back to back losses resulting in 7 points by Xmas to us winning every game. Am I the only one who saw us dominate away from home? I am dissapointed we didnt win but we are playing much better. You cant win the amount of games we need to win without playing well. Very happy with todays performance. Hopefully we can start getting some wins soon. Confident we will break the boxing day curse.

How dare you not click your fingers and turn this team into the second coming of 1970 Brazil Oh **** off. Most managers have a 'bounce' or at least some minor improvements. Supervillan78
Pleased with the point, would have obviously liked more but in the context of the game I'll take it! Edited December 19, 2015 by Supervillan78

Maybe we could have got a win out of one of the draws but really, I don't know what people expected. Edited December 19, 2015 by a m ole
Popular Post PompeyVillan
I find the hate for Garde incomprehensible. Firstly, this isn't his mess. He's only just joined this shambolic mess of a club. The club is the Titanic and he's using a paddle to try to steer it back on course. Secondly, I do sort of understand the calls for the wildcard players, but you can't crucify the manager for not going 'all in' in such a tightly poised game. It's his nuts on the line. Garde is desperately trying to stabilise the team, you can tell with his team selections and tactics. Do you blame him? I felt that today Newcastle had the better chances but actually we were probably the better team. With the type of football Garde wants to play, he needs better players. On the positive. Veretout can at times look accomplished, skillful and clever on the ball. Westwood is an excellent footballer and suited Gardes style of play. Less mistakes from Sanchez. Okore looks like an average PL footballer, I really want to see him next to Richards. Ayew clearly has a lot of quality, and would flourish in a better team. And finally, we showed signs of improvement. You can call Garde a word removed for not bringing on Traore, but at 1-1, I agree, it wasn't the right time for him or Gil.
Jimzk5
no blame from me on Garde, our defense is so poor its no surprise he packs up the midfield, he cant help it if experienced league winning players decide to not mark players. the frustrating thing, once again was we conceded not through exceptional play from the opposition but through just being unable to mark players, its pathetic. TRO
Conditions did not lend itself to our free flowing expansive game...........................................ok just teasing. seriously. First half was woeful second half was much better, with Gestede making a much better contribution, must have been listening to Alan Shearer. some positive we do pass the ball ok at times running off the ball is still a little off what is required. The goal was very well executed as good as any top striker would do. The individual physical battles are still a problem and it creates errors in our game.....we get out muscled too easily. The defence resemble a bunch of school kids at times, too many are still not comfortable with the physical challenge. However a point is a point, but we are running out of games....better than none. Ps decisions of players and manager need to be snappier. pps Thank god Sanchez found something in the second half. For once we weren't behind and chasing, leaving him with so much space to run into. I don't understand it. A draw was as good as a loss anyway. No. It definitely wasn't as good as a loss. Not at all. I'm not convinced we can stay up but if we do then that equaliser could very well be the catalyst. On another note, our fans were great today and made a lot of noise. Big respect to the Geordies too, drank with them all day and they gave us nothing but the upmost respect. Cracking away day. Hanky
On a positive note that goal from Ayew was stunning. Hit that ball with pinpoint accuracy almost completely on the turn. He was superb second half.
Rugeley Villa
points are no good at the minute but im a bit happier tonight because today we actually played alright and showed some bloody fight. play like we did second half and we have half a chance but we need to hurry up as we are way behind.
Popular Post El Zen
At 1-0 I was ready to give up but the second half made me a little more positive. Then I came here and read this thread and I almost gave up again. I really want to be polite but bloody hell, some of you have the patience of a three year old on amphetamines and the football intelligence of a redneck. Was it 'terrible management' not to compromise our shape in a close game we avsolutely could not afford to lose? I can see why some would disagree with Remi's decision but I can't see how it's terrible management. Is Remi a 'prick'? That's just ridiculous. First half was terrible but second half we actually looked like a PL side. For a while it looked like we might actually win, even. I'll take that and a point away from home to an in-form side, in terrible conditions to boot. Some stability, slow improvement - that's all I can ask of the manager right now, and he's delivering that. We can only cling to the hope that, by some miracle, it's not too late to save us.
Raver50032
Well, it doesn't matter what I write - some of hyperbolic willy-waving and thumb nosing will ensue... So for that reason, I'm out.
Richie k
we were never going to start winning games all of a sudden when the manager changed, we are the worst team in the league and got a point away to newcastle. there has been steady improvement since tim left. time isnt a luxury we have i know .but there is no such things as miracles
