If we're talking purely to get drunk people dancing/singing then I'd go a bit "Reflex" on a Friday night I think.

I would play-

1. "Get Ready" by The Temptations
2. "Build Me Up Buttercup" by The Foundations
3. "Make Me Smile (Come Up & See Me)" by Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel
4. "Take On Me" by A-ha
5. "Tainted Love" by Gloria Jones
6. "Sweet Caroline" by Neil Diamond
7. "Laid" by James
8. "Brown Eyed Girl" by Van Morrison
9. "December, 1963" by Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons
10. "Dance the Night Away" by The Mavericks

The original brief was along the lines of wedding crowd in a working mens' club, so you've got some stormers there Shropshire Lad, if I was you I'd just bang out tracks 2,3 and 6, shout out 'thank you and goodnight' and go down in legend as the DJ that left them wanting more. Much more.

Really hard to do this but have tried to put a mini timeline of songs that have meant something at one time or another. I am 40 years old now and started loving music as a child in the 80's to present day:

1. Duran Duran - Is there I should know

2. Genesis - Throwing it all away

3. Simply Red - Holding back the years

4. New Order - World In Motion

5. Embrace - You're not alone

6. Stone Roses - She bangs the drums

7. Oasis - Champagne Supernova

8. The Sundays - Here's where the story ends

9. James Morrison - I won't let you go

10. Take That - Rule the world

I find 3, 9 and 10 particularly incompatible with the bold.

Fee withheld.

Like I said prior to list, some songs mean something and meeting someone and later marrying them makes a difference, than if I was single still.

If I was being considerate of the whole household I would have to have a 'Mr Tumble' song in there as well! :-)
