if you haven't been already then get the airport bus to Monaco rather than stay in  Nice  :)

No I haven't been, sounds like a good plan though. Any recommendations for being in Monaco?

tbh you can just stroll around and enjoy the place ... sea front has some nice bars and cafes , bit of a royal palace up the top of the hill  ,  the casino is worth a quick flutter , and then you can walk down to the harbour and dream at the boats you could have bought had it not come up red when you lumped everything on black :)

Looking at the Dominican Republic, The Dead Sea and one of the Greek islands this year for main holidays.

Looks like Nice is the city break for 2016

Nice is superb....one of my favourite places in the south of france. Great base to explore a few nearby towns like Antibes and Cannes. THe old town  of Nice is great to wander around and have great food.

If you want to visit Monaco (very expensive and full of pretentious flash people) then catch the coastal train along a beautiful coastline.

Villefranche the next town along the coast is definately worth a day trip.

  • 3 weeks later...

Tonyh, your posts in threads like this always make me so jealous, but as usual the advice is always spot on.

Haven't any concrete plans yet. But I know it won't be like last year (if folks remember I went away for 6 months, which reminds me I haven't done a write up on that, hmm should maybe get round to that). Ghost, some of which may be helpful backpacking...

My sister  lives in Oakland, will head over there. Thinking I may, stay with her for a week and then see parts of America/ Canada for a couple of weeks, if I can get that long off work.

Leaving Panama tomorrow , can honestly say it's been one of the best places I've visited , certainly as a family holiday it's been amazing

week or so on a beach resort where we also did the Panama Canal transit . Went on  another trip where we saw the new canal , some wildlife and then rode the train back to Panama City . Currently staying in the rain forest , went fishing yesterday with the kids in the lake and today we rode an Arial tramway through the rain forest and saw sloths , Toucans , monkeys , iguanas , crocs etc .... Went to the rescue centre earlier today and saw a jaguar and then got to help put a rehabilitated sloth back into the wild

Even the air France flight over here was top notch , their bus class is on a par with Emirates on this route in terms of cabin , only 4 seats across on a 777 where as BA run 8 on most of theirs !!

amazing trip but  also a rather expensive one with all the excursions

Had the back to work blues today so booked the following holidays for 2016:

- 5 nights skiing in Morzine in March

- week in Antigua in May

- 2.5 weeks in Costa Rica in December.

Just flights booked for the moment, still deciding on hotels and an itinerary for Costa Rica. Anyone been? If so, any tips?

I wouldn't bother with the DR.

Colleague of mine said the same. Nice hotel and beach but not very much to do in the DR whatsoever.

Considering eastern europe for the beach holiday this year (keep changing my mind!)

Maybe Bulgaria. Anyone been?

Went to Sunny Beach, before it was popular and too crazy. It's ok, but I'd say there are nicer places to go, seen a lot better beaches.

Off to Dublin in March for a stag do. Did not realise how expensive hotels were in Dublin.  However, managed to get an amazing deal on an apartment through airbnb so will be staying in pretty much the same location as everyone else for half the price and in a better standard of accommodation.  Any helpful tips for Dublin welcome!

Our big holiday this year will be to Oman to visit my best mate. He had a little girl around the same time as we did so think it will be nice to spend a week or so over there and easy enough for the little one.

Probably not much help as you are planning a beach holiday, I have been to Bulgaria but I went to Sofia. I can only comment on Sofia which was a beautiful city, the people were very friendly, the weather was really good. Loads of history and culture in the city, great shops and lots of good places to eat and stay. I'm not sure what the beach resorts are like though I'm afraid.

If the people are as friendly as they are in Sofia then I would go, granted I only saw one city but my impression was that it was a very nice country.

Oh nearly forgot to add it's cheap!

We've nothing set in stone yet, and a city break followed by a beach break is something we've talked about so we may well visit Sofia. Thanks

I stopped in Sofia for a couple of nights when I saw Villa play Litex Lovech  the other year

that I ended up going to see Tropic Thunder in the cinema on the second day probably tells you that you don't want to spend too long in Sofia :)

I had an unofficial wander around CSKA's stadium as one of the gates was unlocked as a walked around it so I let myself in  .... did that the other month at Dynamo Tbilisi and got shouted at and chased by a security guard :)

Go for a drink in O'Neills , they have beer taps on the tables & serve excellent food, its address   2 Suffolk Street, Dublin 2. Just round the corner from Trinity College . Avoid Temple bar at all costs , it's expensive & full of idiots.
