I am feeling like the club just doesn't pay attention to supporters' opinions. Perhaps that's the same across the PL, but it's certainly not the case everywhere in Europe, as you all know.

Tim doesn't listen. Tom doesn't listen. Randy doesn't listen. Do the players even listen?

Perhaps I'm wrong about all this, but I feel like there's a lack of a connection between passionate Villa supporters and the club.

Do you agree?

they are right not to listen especially if about management and players

If other off field things then they should pay attention

I don't know. I feel like fans have intuited and predicted accurately some of the major problems we're facing right now. Surely we -- and by this, I don't necessarily mean my own personal opinions, which are often wrong -- collectively deserve to be considered?

The JPA signing was probably down to fan pressure and the non appointment of Steve McLaren was down to a negative reaction from the fans too.

I don't think the board listen too much though, they wouldn't have appointed McLeish if they cared what the fans thought.  That said, they cannot pander to fan reactions, there isn't a single unified voice coming from the Villa support, it's a collection of thousands of different opinions often reactionary and contradictory.

No way should what fans think be the basis of decision making in club management. Fans know nothing, lots of threads here confirm this, including the Leicester one ( when they appointed Ranieri ), the season predictions thread, etc.

The same fans that wanted Lambert?

A minority of fans here felt Sherwood wasn't the answer - we listened to the Spurs fans and understood how big the Villa job is. The majority cheerled for him and would entertain no opposition.

He may be able to spot a decent prospect, but that's a long way from being a manager. Right now the campaign is in disarray. This division might allow a player or two some time to settle, but it's unforgiving in terms of a team - it punishes the unready team without mercy.

I don't really understand the question. What would that connection look like?

Interpret as you see fit. Actually, I think you just did, right? Such a "connection" is a fantasy, perhaps, right?

I think it's better if those in charge are a bit more dispassionate than us fans on the whole, but there comes a point where the fans and the board want the same thing and have to make changes.  For example, the board appreciated the job Lambert was doing in keeping us up while the finances were being sorted out so Randy could sell up more than fans did, who expected more entertainment.  But eventually he had to go, as Sherwood surely has to now.

We live in the world of social media so im sure the board read whats out there, its no coincidence that Lamberts sacking came after the majority of fans, after 2 1/2 years of dross, finally turned against him.

I think part of the dysfunction at this club can be heard in overly deferential comments towards the management, IMO.

"The boss knows best," etc.

Healthy organizations make their "customers" feel like they are heard. I don't think Villa is healthy, and I don't think the club makes supporters feel valued beyond the most trivial way.

If a poll was taken of Villa fans and they were asked, do you feel satisfied that your club takes your opinions seriously, my guess would be that the percentage who said yes would be very low.

Ask Everton or Citeh fans the same, and I bet you the percentage would be much higher.

My larger point is that this dysfunction is part of the cancer rotting our club.

As can be seen from a quick glance at pages on this site, "us" Villa fans never agree on anything, so it's hard to see how the club could listen to "us". They'd just hear one never-ending disagreement about virtually everything under the sun.

The club's priority is to make money. That is done by staying in the league, building the brand abroad and not spending much money on transfer fees, wages etc. Whether the fans are happy or not does not factor into the equation, outside of maybe a slight reduction in merch. And we're pretty brain dead as a collective anyway. In our jerseys screaming advice at the telly or the pitch as if we think we have a better insight into how to set a team up, having attended a total of zero training sessions, as a professional player or manager. We are adult Beliebers, or 1Ders, suspending our usual rational thinking in our support of illiterate multi millionaires, most of whom think we're complete morlocks, like porn stars meeting their fans at a convention. We take the piss out of the young people who spend all their money on Justin Bieber stuff, saying his pop isn't music and it's crap and it's manufactured nonsense. But at least they grow out of it.

I enjoy Aston Villa because it's a feeling of being a part of something. Our tribe. The things we have going for us, and the things we don't. The shared misery of it. But I don't any more think that we have a say over what goes on in the club. We are atmosphere in human form for TV broadcast. Best league in the world.

I think if nothing else a special board meeting ought to be called to discuss the Horrendous Home form alone ......It is absolutely embarrassing.

That is not a pop at any individual manager, but odd every recent one seems to contribute to it with ease.

This club is a business. Lerner just cares that this club retains its value. He hired McLeish against strong fan protests. The fans even went to villa park to voice their strong displeasure that McLeish was in line to become the manager, but Lerner still hired him.

Because apparently Sir Fergie said he was good.

you can include MON in that, we weren't much cop at home under him, I remember quite a few times teams like Sunderland Portsmouth, stoke etc came to vp and did a number on us.
