Paddywhack
Ever noticed how the people that say "Now's not the time to talk about gun control." after a shooting or say "There's nothing we can do, gun control wouldn't do anything" are usually the first people to talk about control, closing borders and building walls if the act has been committed by someone with darker skin?

villa89
Surprised it's taken so long for there to be another one. Time to break out the "thoughts and prayers", they worked so well last time.
StefanAVFC
The fact that 'arm teachers' is a serious suggestion every time this happens is an awful example of how endemic this situation is.
VILLAMARV
As I mentioned in the US bolitics thread I watched a documentary called 'Speed Demons' the other day. imdb page "You can't legislate for crazy" is usually somthing trotted out about now. This documentary sort of addresses at least one aspect of that argument anyway. Hardly an oscar winner but food for thought nonetheless.

I think it will be over before that. If something happens at at a Rodney King type level and the it spreads city to city then I suspect they could lose all control and they might not get it back for a while. If LA went total riot what could they actually do in reality ?

If 1992 is anything to go by if they're worried that the rival gangs might team up against the police and stand with 'the people' they'd roll in the troops, sack the head of the police and trot out politicians to complain about the lack of family values and economic opportunity with a totally straight face. Other politicians would go on some sort of racist rant of nonsense about blacks and welfare cheques. People like Billy Idol will write songs about it. Some new police chief will call for calm and the police will go back to institutional racism amongst other things and nothing will change.

StefanAVFC
Also amusing; the 2nd amendment states anyone can have a gun to take on the government if needed. They will: 1) drone strike you or 2) starve you out or 3) Shell you from a distance I'd love to see deep south AR-15 owners try and take on the government. Good luck guys. I was talking to a teacher based in the US last night, who said that the school they work at have annual shooter drills...In the summer they brought in actors on a teacher training day, armed with blanks and simulated an attack so the teachers were prepared for when it happens. And they think it's just normal.

mjmooney Posted February 15, 2018 VT Supporter Share Posted February 15, 2018 Posted by a FB friend: Quote The utter f***ing obscenity of the NRA: this just in from a Stateside contact. Shame on you, John McCain. (And no, nothing will change, not even if someone shoots the president.) "For your convenience, here is the contact information, along with the $ amounts they have received from the National Rifle Association, for the top 20 "PUBLIC SERVANTS" who are recipients of NRA money, aka those, ultimately, responsible for the deaths of victims of America's current mass shooting epidemic. This cannot become the new 'normal'. It is wrong, & only we can do something, because it has become apparent that the people listed below, & others "in charge", have lost sight of what they are actually supposed to be doing, because they have somehow twisted their loyalties from the American people & our family's safety, to the NRA. If you prefer, or would like to share this with anyone else, & I hope you will do so, I have also included the links where I found the contact info, which includes addresses of only the Senators, if you'd like to write them,or pay them a personal visit if in DC. Respectfully, I ask, do you have something more important to do today? If you do, please, simply delete. Otherwise, thank you for doing what you can. No more business as usual; it's different this time. The US Senate: https://www.senate.gov/general/contact_information/senators_cfm.cfm The US House of Representatives: Telephone #'s are here: https://www.house.gov/representatives You might want to hang onto this, hard to find, list of emails for these Congress-people, as there is not one all-inclusive list available (hence, no link to all of them). I looked each one up individually & copied & pasted it, & yes, I too have other things to do. What compelled me to do this, is while trying to understand what is going on, not why, but HOW, up popped "AR-15 assault rifle for sale cheap". I think America deserves better than this. This has nothing to do with political party affiliation. It has to do with personal safety in our lives, & doing the right thing. The Senate: 1. villa4europe
seen a fair few sobering tweets, one was from a teacher saying that she followed the active shooter protocol, which is a mind blowing thing for schools, teachers and kids to have, training on what to do if a shooter turns up another one was a reporter saying he's now covered the 1st, 2nd, 5th and 9th biggest mass shooting in the states, he's only lived there for 2 years and this against the back drop of trump wanting to have the biggest military parade in history to show off their might...thats a massive part of the problem IMO and one thats going to be just as hard as stepping on the toes of the 2nd amendment, they need to stop the military wankfest, they're obsessed with it, its ingrained in to their lives
