I was sort of extending it to the honourable point of chucking it in and causing a by-election, rather than just declaring yourself 'independent'. A double leap of principle.

Why would they be independent? If the rumours of Soubry, Chukka et all throwing their lot in together are true, then they'd form a new party surely?

If there were enough of them, they'd be the official opposition too (About 130ish I think)

Business Minister Richard Harrington looks like he's going to further demolish the idea of collective responsibility.

Calling fellow Conservative MPs traitors, suggesting they join Nigel Farage's new party and then slagging off your boss's current policy as "fanciful nonsense" isn't going to win you many friends.

Not that he's wrong on any of it of course.

Is that the bloke who said he'd resign if TReeeeza requested it the other day?

He is. If you choose to believe the Westminster gossip, the Government only didn't alter today's motion to satisfy the ERG nutcases because he said he'd resign over it. Although a) I can't imagine he's big enough that they'd worry about it and b) he's clearly going to resign sooner or later anyway.

Anyhow, he's very much taking the Thelma and Louise attitude to being in Government.

Also uttering warm words about her new pals Chucky and his gang,  while also reciting the tory formula in praising Rory Stewart "He has served his country...".

She seems uncertain about which way to jump.  Though if the choice is Chucky or Wee Rory, you have to feel for her.

I must have missed where the only thing that defines whether one is a moderate or not is their strength of feeling towards the EU.

Political discourse is screwed. Probably forever.

Disabled activists have demanded an inquiry after a police force that has patrolled four Conservative party conferences since 2010 admitted sharing information about protesters with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) has now become the second police force to admit sharing information about people taking part in protests with DWP, following a similar admission by Lancashire police.

But GMP has also admitted having a “sharing agreement” with DWP, even though the department explicitly stated two months ago that it had no such arrangements with any police force.

The admissions have followed claims reported by Disability News Service (DNS) that police forces have been targeting disabled protesters taking part in peaceful anti-fracking protests across England.

Lancashire police then admitted in December that it had shared both information and video footage of disabled anti-fracking protesters with DWP, in an apparent attempt to have their disability benefits removed.
