Shame about Southampton going out. They would've struggled this season but I think they'll be alright now. The way English clubs treat the Europa League is a joke

No, the Europa League is a joke and the way English clubs treat it is a reflection of that and completely understandable.

not really though, its a way into the Champions League and probably easier than finishing in the closed off Top 4 of Premier League. Sevilla got automatic entrance to group phase this season for example

the only thing worse than how the English teams treat it is the fact that they treat it like shit and then try their best to get back in the following season. Whats the point?

Yes and Sevilla play in a domestic league that is far less competitive.

Check out the impact on English team's league form as a result of participation in the Europa League, before last season on average teams taking part finished 3 places lower in the league than the season in which they qualified. And that is with the majority of English teams going out of the competition at a relatively early stage.

For an English club to win it they would either need to be a top 4 club with a huge squad or they would have to sacrifice their league season. The later isn't a gamble worth taking.

The reformed competition is nothing but a European super league division 2 which acts as a glass ceiling to English clubs wishing to challenge the established order.

As for trying their best to get in it, I'm far from convinced about that statement. Sure some lesser clubs strain to get in it but the really ambitious clubs, the ones looking to try and make the CL increasingly see it for what it is and treat it accordingly.

What's the point in being in the Premier League just to make up the numbers?
When you're first in european competition it's a high point in the entire history for clubs like Southampton and West Ham.

Surely you owe your fans to give them great moments and memories when you're first qualified.

This boy Mitrovic is a bit lively isn't he?

A bit unlucky by the sound of things, but he's had what, an hour of football and picked up two yellows and a red?

He aimed for, and got Coqelin's shins.

Intent more than the damage caused.

I'm sure English clubs won't be thinking like that when we lose that 4th Champions League spot soon due to clubs rarely getting anywhere in Europe. Italy are very close to overtaking England, and that's mainly because their teams did well in the Europa League in recent years.
