Really thought this match was to be a 'banana skin' so delighted we got three points, especially as I live in Bournemouth. Fantastic to hear Gestede scored - he really could be a great buy! All the talk of a winning mentality before the season would have gone out of the window with a loss. I think all of the new signings that got gametime showed glimpses of why they were brought here. Clark and Richards could form a very solid partnership this season. Playing them once they're all softened up and cynical would be absolutely preferable. But we won, and I'm sort of thinking, yeah we didn't look great, but at least we won. It was a typical Villa win, somehow get in front and then defend like madmen for the remainder. We were lucky on balance of play but its a great start for us and thats all that matters right now. Amavi MOTM, defended well, got forward well, beat a man, other than a couple of wayward passes had a very impressive debut. Guzan, Clark, Richards, Gana all played well. And Gestede did his job in his cameo. All our new strikers seem to notch on debut. Pleased for Sherwood. Now lets beat those mancs at a packed VP. It'll take a while to gel, and even longer until all players are settled which makes this three points even sweeter. Fantastic. UGC Posted August 8, 2015 Share Posted August 8, 2015 Guzan - 6.5. Made some saves, kicking was a bit leave it but kept a clean sheet. Bacuna 5.5. Don't really trust him at the back, was beaten a few times. Didn't do much going forward either. Richards - 8. Was just a rock today. Made some really important tackles and interceptions. Was just unstoppable Clark - 7.5. Was very assured, did a good job on Wilson who looked a handful. Another very solid perfoemance from our Ciaren. Amavi - 7. The guy is just a baller. So classy when on the ball. He reads the game well as well, made a great deal of interceptions. Feels good to have a competent full back! Westwood - 6.5. Kept things ticking over well, great delievery for the goal, put in a few dangerous crosses as well. Did his job in defence. Veretout - 6. Think this guy will be class, really liked the look of him. Did okay today, had a few nice touches and a few nice balls. Be looking forward to seeing him play. Gueye - 6.5. Was all action today, broke up the play well, looks very assured on the ball, can drive at defences as well. A lot to like about Gueye. Ayew - 5. Largely ineffective. A few flashes of quality but did nothing of note. Sinclair - 5.5. A lot of endevour from Scotty, a lot of running, but didn't do much. Agbonlahor - 6. Wasn't as bad as I thought he would be. Made some strong driving runs. Finishing is awful tho. Gestede - 7. Great header by the big man. Looks like he can play a bit too, made some nice passes to put Gabby through.
