Adama Traore will become Aston Villa’s tenth summer signing with Tim Sherwood convinced the club can avoid their annual relegation battle this season.

Traore has agreed a £7million move from Barcelona and is the latest addition to a drastically revamped squad, following five successive years fighting against relegation to the Championship.

Sherwood believes Villa are preparing for a “new dawn” after a spending spree approaching £50million, which was sorely required after another tortuous campaign and the potentially damaging sales of Christian Benteke and Fabian Delph.

Villa supporters will be given their first glimpse of Sherwood’s new squad at home in Friday’s game against Manchester United, with Traore expected to be unveiled before kick-off.

And while Sherwood insists it will take time for his signings to adapt, he is optimistic that Villa can finally progress after a five-year cycle of scrapping for survival.

Asked if he was convinced Villa would not be in another relegation battle, he said: “Yes, but we know it’s going to be difficult and we have to realise that. If we can consolidate this season, we're only going to improve in the seasons ahead because it's such a young group.

“We lost two very influential proven Premier League footballers and it's up to me to make sure that the ones we bring in to the club gel as quickly as possible.

“It's good that the club have backed me and change is what was needed. I think the fans have every right to be excited because these are a group of young men, they're not old at all, they're the future of the football club. It’s my job to make them very exciting for the immediate future.”

Traore will represent a huge signing for the short and long-term future, with the 19-year-old winger regarded as one of the most exciting talents to come through Barcelona’s academy.

Barcelona have insisted on a buy-back option for the teenager and could also insert a clause which enables them to have the final say on any bids that Villa may receive.

Traore was also courted by Liverpool and Stoke City and will deliver much needed flair to a squad that has lost much of its goal threat with the sale of Benteke to Liverpool to £32.5million.

But while other signings such as striker Rudy Gestede have already captured the imagination of other supporters, the impact of Micah Richards cannot be underestimated.

Richards was quickly appointed as captain after joining on a free transfer from Manchester City and Sherwood believes the England international could prove one of the shrewdest deals of the summer.

“If we keep him healthy I’m sure he can get back in that England squad,” he said. “If Micah can reproduce what we know he is capable of, we are getting him in his prime.

“He has been outstanding since he has been here which is why he has the armband on. He has a good aura about him and the boys look up to him.

“It is a great stage for him – no bigger than this one against United.”

Sherwood could make other signings before the transfer window closes but insists a deal to sign Tottenham Hotspur’s Emmanuel Adebayor is “dead in the water”.

Villa could hand a full start to Gestede, who scored last weekend’s winner at Bournemouth, but Sherwood will be without the injured Jack Grealish, Carles Gil and Jores Okore.

Probable Villa line-up: Guzan; Bacuna, Richards, Clark, Amavi; Veretout, Gueye, Westwood, Ayew; Gestede, Agbonlahor.

We love an evening announcement... It's happening...

Like Amavi and Veretout which we were panicking about too!

Hmmm nope no announcement this evening either? I see we are hoping now it's all some sort of tactic to hype the game tomorrow. Strange if it's all been done you'd think they'd just announce it, can still have him walk on the pitch at half time.all very worrying really very wobble wobble

No offence Daz but you give the impression that, even if you had an all night orgy in a brothel full of AIDS ridden women without wearing protection, after injecting yourself several times with drugs from a needle shared with HIV positive crack-heads, you would still test HIV negative!

See this is why i've always thought having fans from other clubs on here is a bad idea.

You get wind-up merchants like Glaston and that Norwich fan and now this chap. Who does he support anyway??

Found this video.

He loves a battle. could probably be a case for 2 of those opposition players getting a pair of yellows, no way would players get away with that sort of treatment on him in the Premier league. I look forward to seeing him against the the lighter weight full backs, they'll want to sub themselves off.

He's going to have to be good to get in the team, so fair play to him. I don't think he'll be an instant starter. He'll have Grealish, Gil, Sinclair, Cole, N'Zogbia and perhaps Gabby to displace.

Yeah ...... can't see Sherwood playing him ahead of Zog !!!
