ryu.yokoi
I think picking the starting 11 is going to be a really hard call. With just 8 days to go till the Bournemouth game can Sherwood put out a team featuring 5-7 new players as many suggest, who will have played very little together? Can't be any worse than last season (as a whole). I am not questioning the quality of the new players and am quite excited by some of them. My point is whether they can function as a team after so little time together. I don't know of any PL team that has ever started with 5-7 new players from the off - do you? Last years Southampton squad?
skarroki
Guzan Bacuna Richards Clark Amavi Westwood Sanchez Sinclair Gil Grealish Agbonlahor Think Sherwood will stick with the players who he wanted to stay at the club and bring the new guys in later. They have one last chance to prove that they should be starting each week and can drag the team up the table. Having said that, I think it's important the back line is settled and I think that is the back 4 Sherwood will want.
Czechlad
Guzan is still with this club if you've forgotten. I havn't forgotten....I just don't think he will be first choice.... Well Sherwood does and he is in charge. Haha...pick him in your team then! I shouldn't have said I don't think he will be first choice....I just think he won't play the first game because he has been away.... Yea definitely missed that bit, but Guzan has been playing at a high level this summer, and he has been here for years. I think he'd be fine to go for the first game. Villain-from-Texas
I have no idea who will play the first match. Tough to predict given all of the moving parts. But based on Gueye's statement that Sherwood plans to play a 4-3-3, I eventually expect something like this: Guzan Hutton, Richards, Clark, Amavi Gueye, Westwood, Veretout Ayew, Ady, Grealish

TheAuthority Posted July 31, 2015 VT Supporter Share Posted July 31, 2015 I see. I'd probably switch Richards with Zlatan when he signs.
Ponky
Yep. Play Zlatan anywhere along the back two I reckon!
Richard
The good thing is not many can predict correctly and the last few years the team virtually picked itself
Delphinho123
No way should Bacuna start right back. Defensively he's an absolute nightmare. I'm all for attacking full backs but their first and primary duty is to be good defenders.
sexbelowsound
When all fit.... Guzman Amavi Okore Clarke Bacuna Sanchez/Westwood Gueye Veretout Gil Grealish Adebayor I've put adebayor up front because I think he is the one that would benefit most from the attacking midfielders behind him. Can't choose between Sanchez and Westwood. Westwood is more consistent but Sanchez is more mobile for me which would be needed in that formation. Finally I'm not sold on Richards and think Okore when fit is a better partner for Clark. Bacuna also whilst not great defensively is a cracking player and would benefit massively from a consistent run of games in one position. Butterfingers
The good thing is not many can predict correctly and the last few years the team virtually picked itself Not only that but we can't even predict the formation. There is untold options in that squad. My worry for Bournmouth is a few are not going to be ready. Grealish is a bit behind the others as (it appears) is Ayew. You would also have to look at anyone who comes in between now and next Saturday to determine whether they are up to speed. Grealish has missed a fair chunk of pre-season. I hope this doesn't mean he's playing catch up for the next few months. Hopefully, his age will mean he'll take it in his stride.

villa4europe
Guzan Hutton - Richards - Clark - Amavi Westwood - veretout - gueye Ayew - Sinclair Adebayor That's what I think he'll go with, midfield 3, 2 runners off adebayor, personally I'd play 1 runner off adebayor (1 from Sinclair, ayew and gabby) and then Gil or grealish Harsh on Kozak but he's going to be 3rd or 4th choice
