Disappointed that the bumping on this thread isn’t due to him being sold for £50m and us subsequently receiving a welcome pay day.

Haven't we already got whatever we're going to get from veretout?

Wasn't he one of the players we supposedly "sold" his sell on fee for?

Vlaar....never really replaced him.

He wasn't actually that great in 14/15, easily his worst on pitch season for us but would've kept him without question given the circus act of Lescott-Richards that came in to replace him. Probably all academic as don't think he played for six months after leaving us.

Think we also sold or ask for early payment for one of Westwood appearence clauses at Burnley.

On his way to Napoli for 27m it seems. Done really well for himself since leaving, real shame that it never worked out here.

Yup, real shame. When you look at our list of 'F-ups' that we mismanaged, imagine Verertout, Guaye, Amavi... all of them went on to greater things.

Just for a bit of context, he's been flattering to deceive for about half a campaign now (and though he was in good form last year, a lot of the big money talk came with more than sprinkling of hyperbole in my opinion).  One of those frustrating players whom for all his ability, if their head isn't in it then he's a passenger.  Hasn't helped that he's been surrounded by some guff players of late (and Fiorentina have been shambolic for a lot of the season) but I do feel that a step up to the likes of a Napoli will end up being beyond him.  But then maybe with better players around him he'll do better (at least until his head goes again).

and Dr Tony cashed in his sell on for a bag of marbles.

To be fair, that bag had some of the nicest taws you ever did see.

MOTM tonight, can't believe how stupid Sherwood was not playing him.

He played in over half the games under Sherwood though especially as he just arrived in England, was Eric Black at the end who never bothered

He started plenty under Garde.

Don't think the prem suited him tbh, bit like Thuvian who didn't do much at Newcastle and then went to Marsielle and produced ridiculous stats and got in French squad.

Yep, asking a young kid to come in and rise above the rest of the "professionals" that we had whilst the media and a chunk of our fan base happily threw him under the bus for being French whilst ignoring the antics of the others

Gueye was seemingly exactly the same, so was amavi, they were good signings that would have been considered incredible business at any decent ran club

A young kid who was living in a hotel along with a newborn baby. The club could have helped him settle better.
