Official: Fiorentina sign Veretout
By Football Italia staff

Fiorentina have officially confirmed the signing of Aston Villa midfielder Jordan Veretout.

The Frenchman arrived for his medical this morning, ahead of what L’Équipe reports is a €7m move.

“Fiorentina announces that outright signing of the player Jordan Marcel Gilbert Veretout from Aston Villa Football Club,” a statement on the Viola’s website announced.

“Veretout, born born in Ancenis [France] on March 1, 1993, has worn the shirt of Nantes, Aston Villa and Saint-Etienne over the course of his career.

“Last season, in a Saint-Étienne shirt he played 43 matches between Ligue 1, the Europa League and the Coupe de France, scoring four goals and providing five assists.

“The French midfielder has also represented all of the French youth national teams, Under-20 World champions in 2013.

“The new Viola player has signed a four-year contract with an option for a fifth.”

Shame it didn't work out for him here - he showed glimpses of becoming a good player in the Premier League and will probably have a successful career elsewhere.

very very rare glimpses, most of the time he was incredibly slow and ponderous on the ball, easily hustled out of possession and offered nothing going forward, my low opinion of him not helped by the fact he wanted out at the first chance he could get.

Really in truth none of the shower of expensive arseh*les we signed before relegation wanted anything to do with the club when we were down, yes maybe that was down to how poorly the club was run but also egos and the fact none of them took any responsibility and went after the first payday they could get.

Amavi only really stayed as he was recovering from injury and even though he has never acted more than professional and always given his all, he will still be off the first club that comes in for him although i still hope we keep him.

Ayew never wanted to stay either, it was only because the owner was so publically outspoken about keeping him.

modern football... wonderful isn't it

Your irrationality is most appreciated.

Aside from viciously face-planting at the local trampoline park 6 months ago and embarking on a muffin-fueled vision quest in Amsterdam at new year's, my health remains much the same.

You're baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack

Good business considering his career since joining Villa. In case anyone was wondering about the amount, €7m is roughly equivalent to £7m, thanks to Brexit.

Or that English clubs have more money than sense and buy players without having a plan for them.

And that some managers have a real trouble handling players who aren't English speaking chavs.

Sanchez was a rotation player for Viola, often used as CB. Doubt Veretout is brought in to be a leading player either.

Seems like a bit of a fiddle. ;)

In his first (and only, as it happens) season at the club he finished with the most assists in our team, despite only playing approx. half the games and struggling to settle in a new country.

Tim Sherwood completely ostracised him (apparently didn't bother talking to him either).  I don't particularly blame him for wanting out of the club.  It amuses me that football fans seem to think players owe the club and, at the same time, a club can do anything they like to the players.

He's a decent player and will do well enough elsewhere.  It's a shame that our club was so terrible at selling our foreign signings in, IMO.
