Emmanuel Adebayor

Also take into account that he is probably older than his listed age. Funny how Yakubu, Martins, Kanu and now him all seem to be in decline at 28 or so. Strange

To actually sign him on a 2/3yr contract, and paying Spurs a real cash money transfer fee would pure madness, I really don't think the club are that stupid....

On a season long loan with Spurs chipping in with his wages, that would be good business with almost no downside.  Gives him a platform to perform so can get his last payday, he'd obviously bring some class / quality to our side, and he'd likely very motivated as he's playing for a contract.  We'd be getting the best out of him.

Signing him full time though, completely different set of circumstances and I'd imagine he'd start well, full of enthusiasm and visor etc, then around new year lose interest and drop off, by the end of season we'd all be thinking what did we do..  how do we get rid of this nightmare (kind of like what happened to him at Spurs).

This is one deal where we hold a strong hand, by all accounts Spurs are desperate to get rid of him, he only has a year left on his contract so can either sit on the bench / reserves there and collect his cash, but drastically reduce his marketability and earning potential in regards to his free transfer next year.  By all accounts there doesn't appear to be a huge list of buyers lining up to take him (that's a warning in itself, but..).

A season long loan would suit everybody.  Spurs free up a slot in the squad and get some / most of his wages off the bill, he gets a chance to show the world he still has what it takes, we get a quality striker who does have an excellent goal scoring record, and who could go a long way to filling the gulf left by Benteke, all while we either blood a younger longer term option or spend more time scoring the market.

The more I think about the more I like the idea of a loan, but deadset buying him, NO.  Goes against the gain of everything we are trying to do, and really puts us back in dark dark days of MON type buying (Proven Prem Players, Wrong Age, High Wages, Little to No Resale value).

Why? Because he's African? Adebayor scored 14 goals in 25 games aged 30.

Total competitive minutes in 2015 = 250mins and 1 goal.

Jan 17th - 60mins vs Sunderland

March 15th- 10mins vs Man Utd

May 3rd- 5mins vs Man City

Jan 21st 65mins League Cup vs Sheffield Utd

Jan 24th - 20mins FA Cup vs Leicester

June 16th- 90mins Togo vs Liberia (1 goal)

Had no pre season with Spurs and joined up late with Togo after a falling out with the manager. I dread to think what shape he is in and seriously doubt we will see much of a contribution this side of Christmas.

Yes. There have been many African players who have had serious question marks about their official listed age. The examples listed by R.Bear all had (at best) dubious ages.

He has too many personal problems. Wouldn't mind him as a backup but he isn't worth the wages, plus Spurs seem to want 5m for him? They should be happy just to get him off the wage bill.

Don’t Man City already pay the greater sum of his wages? Perhaps that’s why they’d hold out for a few quid.

Not since the end of last season.

Tottenham consider loaning Emmanuel Adebayor to Aston Villa Unsettled striker could move to Villa Park on season-long loan, if Villa fund his £100,000-a-week wages

Tottenham Hotspur will consider allowing Emmanuel Adebayor to join Aston Villa on a season-long loan which would effectively end his White Hart Lane career.

Villa manager Tim Sherwood is interested in signing striker Adebayor after Liverpool triggered Christian Benteke’s £32.5million release clause.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy had been demanding around £5million for Adebayor to leave the club on a permanent deal, but may be willing to sanction a loan deal if Villa fund the 31-year-old’s £100,000-a-week wages.

Adebayor has a year left to run on his Spurs contract and loaning him to Villa for a season would get the former Arsenal man off the club’s wage bill for good.

There is an understandable nervousness within Villa Park over sanctioning a move for Adebayor, given the fact the Togo international has twice been granted compassionate leave by Spurs over recent months.

But a loan deal could suit all parties and Sherwood has already made it clear that Villa will attempt to exploit the loan market as he seeks to strengthen his squad.

Villa, however, are not the only club showing an interest in Adebayor and Levy’s more flexible stance could increase competition.

“There will be players at other clubs where they want their players to go out and play some games,” said Sherwood. “We can be that club.”

Adebayor scored 14 goals in 25 games under Sherwood at Spurs and enjoyed working with the former Blackburn Rovers midfielder. It remains to be seen, however, whether a season in Birmingham would appeal to the player.

His first choice would be to remain in London and that could give West Ham the chance to reignite their interest in Adebayor, who the club attempted to sign in January.

With Andy Carroll out until October, West Ham manager Slaven Bilic is looking at opportunities to sign a new striker before the start of the season.

Levy has already sanctioned a number of Spurs exits, with Benjamin Stambouli the latest to go in a £6.5m move to Paris Saint-Germain.

Given the fact they paid £4.7million to sign Stambouli from Montpellier last summer and the midfielder never held down a regular first-team place, Tottenham have done well to make a profit on the 24-year-old.

Stambouli’s exit means Spurs have now managed to get the Frenchman, Paulinho, Etienne Capoue and Younes Kaboul out of the club for a combined total of more than £25m.

Adebayor, Roberto Soldado, Vlad Chiriches and Aaron Lennon all remain available, while Sunderland remain interested in Belgian midfielder Mousa Dembele.

Spurs are not actively seeking to sell Dembele, but Sunderland are prepared to test the club’s resolve with a bid for the former Fulham man.

Another Tottenham player who is not for sale, but could attract interest from elsewhere is reserve goalkeeper Michel Vorm, who is on Ajax’s list of potential replacements for Jasper Cillessen.

Ajax are concerned Cillessen could still move to Manchester United this summer and have drawn up a contingency plan in the event of his exit that includes Dutchman Vorm.

Vorm would almost certainly be interested in a move to Ajax, while Spurs could move for FC Utrecht’s Robbin Ruiter to replace him

Darren Lewis from The Mirror also said this.

It's safe to say this will probably run till the end of the window and it's a case of who blinks first.

Suffice to say we aren't picking up the 100k a week wages for any player let alone Adebayor.

I think it's unlikely but it's on the same as paying £2.5m to loan someone on 50k a week for a year.

Anyway as I said previously And as one of the above says I think it will be late in the window before he goes anywhere.
