He was excellent at the start at centre back, I think he’d be great at this level, he’d dominate

possibly the worst signing in Aston Villa history and he was a free agent

Worse then Balaban?!

I would say Micah wages and signing bonus over his 4 year contract was more than Balaban fee and wages combined

Not to mention as captain he led us to a shambolic relegation

If Smith thinks he can get a tune out of him I really don't mind if he gets a few games.  However I don't think for a second Smith will get anything from him because I think he's gone mentally as well as physically.

For some inexplicable reason my attention was drawn to page 19 of this thread when everyone thought he was a great signing (well, nearly everyone).

Including me.😳

Go and have a look, see if you were one of those rejoicing.

Yeah I was impressed after his first few games I have to admit. He soon changed that though.

Even with our defensive crisis this oaf cant even get on the bench. You must be very very shit not to be able to get into this defence.

im sure i remember a press conference with DS and he was asked a question about Richards, DS basically said he wasnt fit even though he was training.

The impression i got from DS's comments was he was wondering what the f*** SB was doing with him to allow him to train and not even work hard enough to raise his fitness, as if SB just let him do whatever the hell he wanted as long as he didnt annoy him or rub his face in the long standing joke.

At least thats the impression i got from DS's response, reading between the lines.

Would love to know what has been going on with him the last 12-18 months, if he isnt "technically injured", then what the hell has he been doing if he isnt even fit enough during training?, its like he just wallows daily in his 40k a week like a pig instead of training.

Even if he isnt capable of long term play, but he isnt injured, why isnt he maintaining a level of fitness just incase we needed him in....you know......an emergency??

Is this tne interview?

Quote

Dean Smith will monitor the fitness of Micah Richards in the coming months but admits he’s still some way off the pace at this stage.

The 30-year-old hasn’t played a competitive game for over two years and will not be considered by Smith in the near future.

Richards has serious problems with his knee which is why former boss Steve Bruce chose not to select him.

And after watching the former Manchester City and England ace train this week. Smith agrees that he’s also not at the level required to feature in the Championship.

“Micah has trained with us but he’s not played for a long time so his fitness is not near to be in contention at all at the moment.

“We’ll see how his fitness builds over the next month or two.”

Asked whether he will be put on a special programme, Smith said:

“He’s been on a special programme.

”The training minutes he hasn’t had so far.

“We’ll see how his body adapts to those training minutes as we go.”

Just struggling a little bit to see how you read all that into such a straightforward, factual statement.

What does seem very clear is that Richards is nowhere near playing for the first team again, not that I would want him there even if fit.

No club will take this piece of garbage once his contract expires though so he will just retire after he leaves here

Probably one of the worst and expensive free signings ever. I know he don't care but you should be absolutely ashamed of yourself Micah. Your everything that is wrong with modern day football.

Micha Richards has been a mind blowingly bad signing for us. The fact that there are numerous contenders for the dubious honour of being the worst signing, tells us all we need to about the mess that’s been allowed to develop over the last few years. Hopefully we are now slowly dragging ourselves out of the gold encrusted swamp.

From what I understand, Richards is a good guy, the kind you'd want around your training ground, good with the kids, got time for everyone, works hard in the gym and gives his all at stuff. He's very well liked. I realise that sounds pretty unlikely, but It's what I hear.

He's also got problems with his knees that mean he'll never play professional football again - apparently he's been trying very hard over the last eighteen months to two years to prove his body wrong and continue playing, he's tried Doctors, quacks, specialists, alternative therapies and everything in between and is now facing up to the fact that his career is over. The knee went in October 2012 and he had his first operation on it then. He's spent half of his career playing crocked and in pain and has struggled to come to terms with a career where he probably should have been retiring when he joined us. Now, what that says about us as a club taking him on I don't know - I'm guessing there have been times where his knees have looked like they might make a football future possible, but I don't recall there being a queue to take that risk. We took it, it hasn't worked out. The player can try all he likes, but when you can't run and you can't turn, you end up just being a Lescott of a player.

Football finished with him before he was finished with it - maybe, as is sometimes the case, he'll go on to be a successful coach.

You have to wonder what our medical staff were playing at to be honest.

I'd read @OutByEaster? post above Dem and rethink your opinion. I have also heard that he is great around the training ground and has been excellent with the young players. The fact he is still giving his all and inspiring others  despite his knees being shot is the reason he is still at the club and hasn't had his contract paid up and been told to do one.

He certainly isn't an example of everything that is wrong in football. He is though an example of how as a footballer injuries can cut you down in what should have been your prime and no matter how hard you try you can't recover.
