The_Rev Posted June 7, 2015 Posted June 7, 2015 Heart of Glass by Blondie in the UK. My dad actually bought a copy the week I was born and I got it as a birthday present when I was about ten. I did the same for my daughter (Crazy, Gnarls Barkley). In Australia and the USA it was Rod Stewart - D'ya think I'm sexy? and in Canada and Germany it was Y.M.C.A. by the Village People. I think all three of those are monster hit records which most people in this thread would instantly be able to sing. I'd imagine that is a thing of the past, how many number one records of the past decade will be remembered in twenty or thirty years? The manufactured nature of the charts (marketing campaign > enter straight at #1 > disappear without trace two weeks later) has probably killed the place a number one record has in the hearts of the general population. 1
