They're an authoritarian government, but still capitalist, just like Russia. I don’t think so, no. Mostly state owned enterprises are the ones causing and contributing to the climate and environmental destruction under the direction of the communist party. The massive fossil fuel use, the destruction of habitats is specifically under the control and ownership of the Chinese Communist Party. Even those non state owned enterprises in China, are they really capitalist, or are they also just tools of the state granted a little distance for convenience and appearance and political ends?

Starmer needs to stop calling these elections. The costly court case is the one that he chose to settle out of court, possibly for political reasons of distancing himself from his predecessor (we are unlikely to ever know, because the leadership refuses to release the legal advice they were given about the case's chances of success).
Chindie Posted July 20, 2021 VT Supporter Share Posted July 20, 2021 Meanwhile the right of the party realising the leader is a dead man walking are happily using him to (whisper it) purge the left to stack the deck even heavier to their advantage when they need to replace him. HanoiVillan
Story seems to be true anyway: What I want to know is what happened to this: That story came out *after* the court case was settled. So what happened to the big donors? EDIT: Further to this: This is quite revealing about the decline in membership - I've seen suggestions that around 100,000 members have left since the start of last year, but don't know how reliable that is - but it doesn't help me with what happened to the big donors. Yeah but the one who dies will massively increase the vote to gift the next leader a huge majority that they then gradually erode away and leave the party unelectable for 30 years. bickster Posted July 20, 2021 Moderator Share Posted July 20, 2021 Three weeks pay per year served seems like a good deal compared to what most people get. Then consider that some of these people will go on to work for MPs paid for by parliament (us) and not the Labour Party. It’s certainly what will be happening to my niece
blandy Posted July 20, 2021 Moderator Share Posted July 20, 2021 Maybe Labour should, like, “do a policy” on something? You know, sort of stand for something? Then people could do a decision as to whether they were the sort of party they might vote for? Bit of a long shot, I know.
bickster Posted July 20, 2021 Moderator Share Posted July 20, 2021 Anyway. I've posted some stuff by this arrogant throbber before. A self titled “Metropolitan Socialist” with a Hitler complex. Always thought he was a total cock regardless of his politics Here he is in a self congratulatory tweet because he's succeeded in getting another dispersal zone for the Mann Island area of the river front in Liverpool Before you know, there were kids skateboarding and that offended him. There's a bit of a campaign up against him now. I'm hoping for a similar reaction to the Swansea skate kids Beep For The Bellend campaign The replies are worth a read, hardly a positive amongst them. 1

Billy Bragg tried to remove skateboarders from the South Bank undercroft. (The un-nuanced version) It didn’t work out well for him. Not sure why people have issues with skateboarders but it seems people have a hill they are prepared to die on.

Looks like the type that would say they’ve built a state of the art skatepark nearby for kids to use, and then expect kids to flock to this in a shit park in the middle of nowhere.
Jareth Posted July 20, 2021 VT Supporter Share Posted July 20, 2021 If Labour are short a few bob I suggest they impose a tax on Jess Phillips' publishing advances. Perhaps not the sales revenue though.

It's not his politics I dislike (well some of it I do), it's him, as a person. An absolute knobjockey. We once had a twitter argument about the suitability of a former cinema in the city centre to be a live music venue. He kept insisting it would be fantastic and was getting some traction with his opinion until I waded in. Told him he didn't know what he was talking about, pointed out the the fire escapes were only two meters from the main Road through the city centre (you know, the one with the mainline station on), that the load in / out would block all number of bus routes for hours before and after a gig, the rake in the venue was too high for a standing venue and would have to be dug out and levelled (in a grade II listed building), and other small technical details. I also pointed out a couple of previous surveys on the building for the same purpose and they both came to the same conclusion, it wasn't viable for the reasons I highlighted. Everyone suddely saw him for the granstanding turd that he is and that he was wasting public money on another survey. Needless to say he blocked me on that account EDIT: and as if by magic, the tweet has gone, can't have himself looking like a tit can he. Even funnier, he's locked his account
