is this straight from the man city school of look how cheap our cheapest season ticket is arent we **** amazing?

the reality is its not a true reflection of their ticket pricing

using villa park as an example so its easier to understand, west ham blow their trumpet and declare its £289 to sit in the lower north, but its £940 to sit in the trinity, is that really any better than our pricing of £380 and £615? to me its not, but when the highest and lowest tables are printed in the rages in a few months gold and sullivan can sit there with a huge shit eating grin on their faces

Fag packet maths ahoy.

Making the following assumptions

25,000 ST holders

Every ST holder pays £400

Every game is a sell out.

Remaining 10,016 tickets at Upton Park selling for £30 a pop every game

22 home games a season

West Ham pull in £16,6 from gate reciepts at Upton Park.

The Olympic Stadium basked on the same assumptions including the 25% reduction and allowing a generous 10,000 increase in ST holders will net them £ 23.04m

Yep. generous owners putting fans first.

Disclaimer - yes its very crude. yes it doesn't account for an increase in running costs or the purchase of the stadium and yes my maths is notoriously ropey..... the intention is to show that a reduction in price + the free advertising and wall to wall media coverage makes the "gesture" more than worthwhile for WH.

In West Ham's case it's definitely them needing 54,000 people to turn up every week.  Nothing to do with the TV deal.

Yes and thats all its about in my view. No goodwill gesture, nothing to do with the extra tv revenue. Arsenal can charge what they like because they have a waiting  list of 15,000 for season tickets.

They might be playing games because the move to the Olympic Stadium is being probed for not getting permission from the EU before the deal was done.

I'm struggling to think of a single reason why it would have anything at all to do with the EU. Seems a bit weird to me.

It was a reference to the fact they probably wanted to get some good PR off the back of media reports that had got "state aid" from the UK taxpayer which might in contravention of European State aid laws.

Karren Brady has told Sky Sports News HQ it is “categorically wrong” that West Ham’s move to the Olympic Stadium has been subsidised by the UK taxpayer.

The West Ham Vice Chair spoke to Sky Sports News HQ after it was suggested that West Ham’s plan to move into the Olympic Stadium could still be in contravention of European state aid laws.

"The suggestion that we're subsidised is categorically wrong - we pay our way in that stadium," said Baroness Brady. "There was an anonymous complaint made to the body you're talking about (the LLDC) and they decided there wasn't a case to answer.

"So it's not really a matter for us, it's a matter for the LLDC but they did a robust bidding procedure, there were four bids and ours was the best offer in financial terms and in terms of legacy.

"We are making a huge contribution to the conversion and a huge contribution to the revenue. Without us there's no lynchpin in the stadium to create the jobs and to create the legacy. We're confident we haven't done anything wrong."

Andrew Boff, a representative from the London Assembly, has questioned the move and said there could be ‘chaos’ if the European Commission rule against it.

The football club, who were awarded a 99-year license to rent the Olympic Stadium last year, will pay £15m towards those costs and believe their presence in the arena will be of financial benefit to the taxpayer.

But the deal is not without its critics, who are concerned at the way a taxpayer-funded stadium has been handed over to a football club and the ongoing costs it will incur to local authorities.

“West Ham move in next season and I would rather see this raised now than see the chaos if they were asked to leave, if it is found their move goes against the rules for state aid,” Boff told Sky Sports News HQ.

"They’ve been given the lease on a peppercorn rent. The stadium cost us as much as £650m of taxpayers money. There's a £40m loan coming from the residents of Tower Hamlets, and there are various other things that could be seen as taxpayers money going in to supporting a private firm.

"It would only be sensible, therefore, that they should have checked with the European Commission whether this move wasn't illegal. I'm not entirely sure it isn't illegal.

"A reference needs to be made now and it needs to be rubber stamped by the EU Commission. I can't picture the chaos there would be from the EC ruling against these arrangements and West Ham having to leave the Olympic Stadium and be homeless. That's not a good future for the club."

Within five years that'll be back up to £600+

They have to fill their ground for now, and are going to try and lure people in.

I would be over the moon to see them go down when they give Sam the boot in the Summer.

Those prices won't look so clever if they can't get out of the Championship.

Tbh I'd love that too, moving into their shiny new big stadium on the back of a relegation.

Karren Brady is misleading people IMO. The local authority has safety regulations that must be met in order for a venue to host winter sports, and those regulations include retractable seats and covered seating. The installation of seats and a full roof for the venue has cost the taxpayer £200m and counting.

They are gonna try to become the choice for tourists and neutrals in London, cheap tickets, easy access to the stadium from central London.

Every little hotel and bnb are going to sell tickets, like they do with musicals etc. Just look at how they promoted City's visit a while back, "come and see the stars of Manchester City"
