Players you've completely forgotten about

With Messi scoring that cracking free kick against Plop yesterday reminded me of arguably the best free kick taker of all times.

Juninho Pernambucano

He scored 100 goals from central midfield for Lyon, 44 of those were direct free kicks. In total he scored 76 career free kicks.

Most of them absolute stunners.

Meh.  Fair play to him becoming so good at controlling "knuckle ball" shots to this extent, but SO MANY of those free kicks are scored because the ball is doing really weird shit (best highlighted in that video in goal number 4).

The young lad Odegaard at Real Madrid. Super hyped at a really young age, too much was expected of course and ended up on a few loan spells.

The lad is now 20 and seems to be tearing it up for ex Chelsea B (Vitesse), and he's tipped to go to Ajax next season. Great to see as a lot of players like him with the early hype can completely disappear.

Funny, I was thinking this about El Ghazi the other day. The hype around him at age 18/19 was definitely a 'thing', linked with a few mega clubs like Real Madrid and Chelsea, then he just kinda disappeared. Next thing you know, popping up in a Villa shirt. Bizarre one.

Alexander Hleb. Someone mentioned him in another thread. And he played for both barcelona and arsenal when they were somewhat decent.

Barcelona was bad move, barely played and ended up at SHA on loan. Alex Song followed a similar career trajectory but ended up at West Ham (think he nearly went to SHA aswell).

Hleb is still playing, was in for Borisov in their europa league games.

Alvaro Recoba, once the highest paid player in the world.

By FM rating he had 20 in talent and 1 in application. On his day he was amazing thou and scored some cracking goals.

Apparently he only quit playing in 2015

He also has the same prominent chompers that compatriot Suarez has, perhaps an Uruguay thing?
